Dawn of the Night: The Awakening of a Loser

Chapter 4: Chapter 4:Love in the Midst of Danger

Ian's fingers nearly cramped as he gripped the letter, each word like a sharp icicle stabbing into his heart. The cold, threatening instructions led him to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of town. That's where his beloved Sarah was trapped, in what felt like a hellish nightmare.

The night was as black as pitch, so thick you could cut it with a knife. Ian, alone, looked tiny and frail against the endless darkness. He walked resolutely towards the factory, the shadows around him seeming to come alive, clawing at him as if to swallow him whole. As he got closer, a stench hit him like a wall—a mix of rust and mold that made him gag. The factory loomed in the dim light, like a monster lying in wait for its prey.

Ian's heart was heavy with worry for Sarah, each step heavy and determined. He knew the storm he was walking into, but the thought of Sarah suffering made his eyes sharp like an eagle's, full of resolve and fearlessness. He swore he'd get Sarah out of this nightmare unscathed, even if it killed him.

As he stepped into the factory, the smell got even worse, burning his nose. Suddenly, a group of thugs appeared, led by Zhang Meng. Zhang Meng was built like a bear standing upright, his large knife glinting evilly in the dim light. He let out a wild, mocking laugh that echoed through the factory like a demon from the depths of hell. His goons joined in, making a racket that shook the walls, overwhelming Ian with their sheer presence.

But Ian wasn't fazed. He stood cool and collected, his eyes darting around like lightning, looking for a chink in their armor. Zhang Meng, seeing Ian's calm, lost his cool, roaring, "Kid, today's your last day! You're way out of your league messing with the ability organization!" With that, he swung his knife at Ian, the air whistling.

Ian didn't back down; he charged right at Zhang Meng. At the last second, he dodged like a ghost, easily avoiding the deadly swing, and in one fluid motion, grabbed a goon's wrist. His ability kicked in, his consciousness diving into the thug's memories, revealing their strategy and weaknesses in a flash.

With this knowledge, Ian launched a fierce counterattack. He moved like water through the crowd, his strikes vicious and precise. Using the environment, whether it was old machinery or pipes on the ground, he fought back fiercely. Despite being outnumbered, Zhang Meng's crew went down like leaves in a storm, their arrogance quickly replaced by terror.

Zhang Meng, both shocked and angry, tried to attack again but was tripped up by his fallen comrades.

As time passed, Ian took down every last one of them, leaving Zhang Meng alone and vulnerable. Fear flickered in Zhang Meng's eyes, but he tried to keep up appearances, "Don't get too cocky, this ain't over!"

Ian slowly closed in on Zhang Meng, his gaze icy with intent. Without a word, he threw a punch loaded with all his rage. Zhang Meng couldn't dodge, and it sent him sprawling like a kite with its string cut, unable to move.

"Please, spare me!" Zhang Meng pleaded, voice thick with despair.

Ian looked down at him coldly, "Tell your ability organization, anyone who messes with my people is toast!" Zhang Meng nodded frantically, trembling. Ian ignored him, striding deeper into the factory.

The deeper he went, the heavier the air felt. Finally, he reached the innermost room. The door was ajar, a faint light flickering. Ian pushed it open to see Sarah, bound to a chair, her face pale, tired, and scared, but relief flashed in her eyes when she saw him.

By her side stood Elder Liu, who sneered as Ian entered, "You've finally come, Ian. This was all a trap. Did you think you could just walk in and save her?" As he spoke, a powerful light enveloped Ian, trapping him in some kind of binding spell.

Ian felt a jolt but quickly tried to break free with his powers, only to find it unyielding. Elder Liu laughed as Ian struggled, "Don't waste your energy. This was made for you. Your fate was sealed the moment you stepped in here."

Sarah, worried and desperate, shouted, "Ian, run, leave me!" Ian looked back at her, his gaze as firm as rock, "No way, I'm not leaving you."

Elder Liu walked over, sneering, "Give up your powers, and I might spare you both." Ian scoffed, "You expect me to buy that BS?"

Suddenly, the spell flickered, as if some force within was pushing back. Elder Liu's face changed; he hadn't expected Ian could even dent his carefully crafted trap. Ian, gritting his teeth, focused all his mental energy, memories of happy times with Sarah lighting up the dark corners of his mind, giving him strength.

With relentless effort, a crack began to form in the spell. Elder Liu, sensing the threat, increased the spell's power. "You're not getting away, Ian," he growled.

Ignoring him, Ian pushed harder, his body shaking from the effort, sweat pouring down, but his eyes grew more determined. Finally, with a loud crack, the spell shattered.

Elder Liu looked at the broken spell in disbelief. Ian didn't waste time; he charged at Elder Liu like an arrow from a bow. Elder Liu, caught off guard, used his powers to defend.

The two clashed in a heart-pounding battle. Elder Liu, with his formidable powers, attacked with earth-shattering force, but Ian, driven by love and bravery, fought with cunning and ferocity.

During the fight, Ian spotted a flaw in Elder Liu's technique—a brief pause after each big move. Seizing the moment, Ian launched his strongest ability, a wave of energy that hit Elder Liu like a tsunami, sending him crashing into the wall.

Ian quickly subdued Elder Liu, asking, "Got any last words?"

Elder Liu, full of spite, spat out, "Don't get too comfy, the organization won't forget this!" Ignoring him, Ian rushed to Sarah, freeing her.

"Ian, are you hurt?" Sarah asked, concerned. Ian gave her a gentle smile, "I'm good, let's get out of here."

But just as they moved to leave, sounds of footsteps and shouts from outside signaled more trouble. "Looks like our trouble's not over," Ian said, his face set.

Sarah nodded, understanding that a tougher fight was coming. Ian squeezed her hand, his voice steady, "Don't worry, I've got you. Nobody's gonna hurt you." Together, they stepped out, ready to face whatever challenge lay ahead in this treacherous factory. Their fate was still up in the air.
