Chapter 1085: Gather The Unseen
The world of Alterian worked just as many other societies did. With several different jobs in a large number of sectors. There were those that worked on the upkeep of the streets, building the cities.
Others that worked as lawyers in criminal cases, you had convenience store workers, students, and more. All of them working to fit in the current society one way or another.
One individual worked in a convenience store where they were wearing a bright green uniform. Serving customers one after the other.
"Hey, do you mind warming up my coffee a little more? You're a heating mage, right?" An old woman asked from the other side of the counter. "Usually they hire microwaves like you here."
"Microwaves? If you're calling me a microwave, why don't you use your own damned microwave!" the worker wanted to shout out, but decided to smile instead.
The convenience store he worked at was considered slightly more high-end because it used real people to serve. And things like heating up coffee and meals were done by mages using their magic, rather than devices.
It gave them an edge, and it made people feel a bit better. It helped the economy with providing jobs, and locals thought they were supporting other mages.
However, not everyone was thankful for this. Some felt like it was a slap in the face. They weren't good enough to get anything else, so here they were, their magic being reduced to just this in the end.
"Your food is nice and warm. I studied hard with my fire skills just to warm that food right up for you!" The worker said with a smile and handed the food back.
"What the—it's not even hot enough. No wonder you work in a place like this. I'll just heat it up myself, broken microwave." The woman said as she walked and started to use her own magic to heat the food.
The young worker's eye started to twitch.
'She had fire magic this whole time, yet still decided to use me. This life sucks so much…'
As the worker placed his head on the counter, he noticed his wristwatch lighting up. Immediately he lifted his head, tapped it, and the message was played out in his head.
"Hey, Greg!" The worker shouted. "I have a family emergency, I need to go."
Without a second thought, the young man had jumped over the counter and left with a big smile on his face.
At the same time, throughout the city, multiple individuals were receiving messages on their magical devices. Some of them placed on a wristwatch of sorts, others placed on their ears. Once receiving a message, it would play it in audio form to the mind.
A message that only the user would hear, and once hearing this message, a string of actions had occurred after it.
In an office, a man in a suit and tie was in the middle of a presentation.
"Sorry, it looks like I will have to cut the meeting early today. I will be seeing you all later."
Another individual, a cleaner, looked left and right before quickly cleaning the halls with water magic and then proceeded to move.
Another, a teacher in class who never turned up for their students, and instead a supply had come in.
These individuals were all walking the streets after receiving a message and then took turns into the various alleyways located in the city.
As they turned, they walked until they reached a manhole cover. This was the same for the convenience store worker.
The convenience store worker noticed an individual standing up against a wall, not too far from the manhole, and waited.
"Fear the unseen." The man standing there said.
"For we are always near." The convenience store worker replied. With that, he reached down and cast a small essence of Dark Magic.
The manhole activated and began to move. The ladder descending down to the world below was seen.
"You should take off your name badge, Tim." The man said on the side.
"It's not safe for people to know your real name."
The convenience store worker Tim smiled as he reached for his name badge and placed it away, and with that, he had descended into the underworld.
Eventually reaching the bottom, Tim had jumped down, and he was navigating his way through the crude living area. The city below.
As he walked, he could see that there were many others down here that looked like him. Wearing clothes from the world above, that didn't fit in, were heading to the same position.
'It looks like something big is happening this time. Everyone's gotten the message. I didn't even know the guild was so big either.'
Eventually, Tim had reached the location. It was what looked like an old town square, a park of sorts that had a crumbled wooden platform that was raised slightly above.
Large amounts of people had gathered. Some wearing mage robes to cover their appearance, others who were just in their regular clothing like Tim.
He also noticed that the higher-ranked Voidbinders were placed at the front, around thirty of them in total. The ones that were stronger when it came to Dark Magic.
Eventually, a whirlwind of Dark Magic had appeared on the wooden stage, and as the Dark Magic faded into nothing but particles, a man with a pointed robe stood on the stage itself.
It was the Dread Magister, Harvey.
"Fear the unseen!" Harvey said.
"For we are always near!" The others repeated back instantly, and then everyone started to go down on one knee. They followed, and Tim did the same quickly to not offend.
"The time for us to act has finally come, the time for the whole world to know of the Dark Guild's existence has come!" Harvey shouted. "We have received orders from the Dark Spirit. Today is the day the world will learn of the Dark Guild!"
