Fourth day of confinement. Worried that I only picked at my food during dinner last night, Sa Hae-geon made a big fuss about ordering loach soup early in the morning. Something about me being tired and having no appetite because I guided him. 

His ability to procure various ingredients every time was a talent in itself. I’ve never seen anyone utilize online shopping malls as deftly as Sa Hae-geon.

While Sa Hae-geon laid on his bed selecting ingredients to order, I nearly lost all my energy digesting the emotions he left behind. I was so exhausted from soothing and consoling all sorts of emotions with my eyes open all night.

I thought Sa Hae-geon’s confinement would be completely comfortable. I miscalculated.

As I sat at the dining table with my chin resting on it, spacing out from the all-nighter, Sa Hae-geon abruptly shoved his face in front of me, wearing a pink apron with a white cat printed on it, and asked,

“Is steamed egg and radish salad really enough?”

“Huh? Yeah. That’s plenty.”

Answering like that, I averted my gaze from Sa Hae-geon. It was a bit embarrassing since one of the emotion fragments I received yesterday happened to be related to cooking. How should I put it… It felt like I peeked at a diary I shouldn’t have.

That fragment contained the circumstances behind Sa Hae-geon’s resolve to learn cooking. I don’t know the exact situation, but it was clear Sa Hae-geon decided to learn cooking after receiving some big shock.

I felt like I should tell him I glimpsed his emotions while guiding, but I was cautious. Confessing to opening his diary without permission would likely make Sa Hae-geon uncomfortable.

I was pondering how to bring it up indirectly.

“Meow.”

Cream, who had been hiding under the bed for two days, finally came out. She peeked her face out from under the dining table. I can’t believe this heartless cat is acknowledging me first.

“Chae Cream.”

“Mrow.”

After ignoring me for two days, looks like she got over it on her own. Cream shamelessly headbutted my leg as if she never gave me the cold shoulder. Not stopping there, she even purred.

“Seriously, you.”

Her jade and topaz-colored eyes blinked slowly. My sulky heart completely melted at her apologetic gaze. When I carefully reached out my hand, Cream narrowed her eyes and rubbed her forehead against it.

Not satisfied with just that, she immediately demanded chin scratches.

“Did you eat, Cream?”

Seeing her purr and roll around even as I rubbed her soft belly, it seemed her anger had fully dissipated. As Cream and I continued our emotional reunion, Sa Hae-geon obliviously interrupted.

“Cream, did you sleep well?”

At his gentle voice, Cream, who was sprawled on the floor, widened her eyes and looked at Sa Hae-geon.

“Mewl.”

Cream naturally replied, waving her tail.

“Cream seems to be in a good mood. I left some dried anchovy treats on her food yesterday as a bribe, maybe she liked that?”

“What? Where did dried anchovy treats come from?”

“I heard it’s a popular product among cat butlers, so I ordered some to try. I’m glad Cream liked it.”

Despite only living with Cream for a few days, Sa Hae-geon acted as if he was her butler. I decided to let it slide since it didn’t feel that bad. I just hoped Cream and Sa Hae-geon wouldn’t get too attached to each other.

It would lead to a tricky situation later when I leave this house.

“What are you thinking so deeply about?”

“Oh, nothing much.”

“Food’s ready.”

“Yeah? Let’s eat. Thanks for the meal today too.”

Sa Hae-geon beamed as I picked up my spoon and thanked him. Sa Hae-geon’s smiles definitely increased after receiving guiding. On the first day, he would’ve just given a small smile, but now he grins brightly.

Whether this is good or bad… As I was pondering, Sa Hae-geon spoke up.

“I slept soundly for the first time yesterday. It’s all thanks to you.”

“…What?”

“My head always felt heavy and stuffy. But after receiving guiding, it cleared up.”

The smile never left Sa Hae-geon’s lips. Well, if it’s a positive effect of guiding, then so be it.

“I guess we’re fated after all. If we do a matching test, I’m sure it’ll be 100%, no, 120%. You think so too, right?”

I wonder if he was never right in the head to begin with, not because of the side effects from his twisted body waves. Sa Hae-geon spouted strange logic with a sound mind once again.

“Actually, ever since living together with you, I’ve been feeling my body getting lighter bit by bit.”

“Ah, I see.”

What nonsense is this again?

I scooped up the fluffy steamed egg and ate it, listening to Sa Hae-geon with one ear and letting it flow out the other.

“Even when taking wave regulators or suppressant injections, my head was always heavy, but it’s amazing. It’s the first time since awakening.”

Every year, there are a few Espers who unconditionally trust the Guide who gave them their first guiding. And it seems Sa Hae-geon is one of those few this year. Having endured only with regulators and suppressants, then receiving guiding for the first time, his reaction was bound to be different.

Thankfully, most Espers quickly forget their first Guide. Sa Hae-geon is probably caught up in the joy of his first guiding now too, but he’ll get desensitized soon enough. And he’ll lose interest in me.

I give it 6 weeks max. After 6 weeks, I’ll probably be out of this house and back in the field. Thinking that, I felt like I might occasionally miss Sa Hae-geon’s delicious meals and his words that are so absurd they make me laugh hollowly.

Because that has nothing to do with my will.
