Chapter 46: A Letter to My Fellow Book-lovers for the New Year
Ah, actually there's nothing much to say, just wanted to wish everyone an early Happy New Year.
It's mainly because this is an activity by Qidian, where it's said that everyone can try their luck with a raffle through this single chapter, so I thought I'd post one to see how much we could win...
I just posted it, but it didn't pass review—they said the minimum requirement is 500 words...
So, should I take the opportunity to do an annual summary?
But scratching my head, I feel there's not much to summarize, as I've already said a lot in previous individual chapters and postscripts, especially the postscript where I summarized everything I wanted to last year. It's pointless to keep repeating the same old stories, so maybe I should write less in my postscripts in the future and save it for the new book?
Smile.
Why not talk about the new book, then? The new book's momentum is quite good, thanks for everyone's support.
I've always wanted to write a story with a Worldly Society flavor. Xue Mu, Qin Yi, and Chu Ge all clamored about the dream of "wielding a sword through the Worldly Society with wine in tow," but never got around to it because of busy work. This time, I've decided to give it a try. With one hand wielding a blade cleaving the rivers and with the other holding a wine jug, drunk with the universe—the deeds the predecessors did not accomplish, Zhao Changhe will undertake.
Xue Mu with literary elegance, Qin Yi with profound intelligence, Chu Ge a typing machine—my Main Characters are always somewhat bookish. Xia wanted to break free and tried too hard but wasn't too successful; this time I'd like to try again with a wild and powerful hero. Something like a martial arts fantasy version of Tang Jinyan? But still not quite the same. Tang Jiu indeed grew up in the underworld, while Zhao Changhe is not of that ilk; although he has no choice but to enter a den of thieves, his heart is still set against the background of a sunset painted red by Hongling's feathers. The beauty of the Worldly Society is fully captured in this essence.
As I had already mentioned when starting the book on the public account, there are some foreshadows and premises laid out in the initial stage of the new book, and such a story, rich in the nature of martial arts, might seem somewhat clichéd to some, and perhaps not many people would favor it. Furthermore, I wanted to emphasize the Main Character's personal growth and Qi cultivation process, coupled with a larger plot, which means that the proportion of romantic scenes, my usual strength, might be comparatively compressed a bit (though it might not be very noticeable—still quite a lot?). In any case, I was prepared to sit on the cold bench for a while, to see if things would improve after accumulating more words.
The result is that the book's statistics were off the charts; over ten thousand people were following it last weekend, and I didn't ask how many this week, but I'm guessing it's gone up.
It's a bit puzzling.
All I can say is that everyone still has high expectations for me, and these few dozen chapters ultimately did not disappoint everyone.
I feel very honored... and I will continue to refine my work, striving to make the unfolding picture even more spectacular.
That's it, may everyone have a joyful and healthy New Year, and may everything go your way in 2023.
