Chaotic World Book

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: This Heaven is Unjust

"I don't want to go back, and whether or not I can go back are two different things, stop fucking pretending with me!" Zhao Changhe couldn't be bothered to argue with her anymore and, infuriated, charged at her, trying to grab the blind woman by the collar.

But the scene was very bizarre. It seemed like the blind woman was just standing by the bed inside the room, but no matter how he lunged, he was always just a bit too far, never able to touch her.

Upon closer inspection, he was actually jogging in place.

This Mystical experience finally gave Zhao Changhe a sense of being in a dream, and he calmed down a bit, asking, "So am I just dreaming of you right now, or are you using some kind of Divine Skills to contact me?"

"Isn't life just like a long dream of spring and autumn, what difference does it make which one it is?"

"You've read Spring and Autumn too?"

The blind woman: "?"

"Cut the crap with me!" Zhao Changhe sneered, "Playing all mysterious when it's already come to this, what the fuck? Just kill me and be done with it; I know you're powerful."

The blind woman choked up a bit and shook her head slightly, "How has it been so little time, yet you've become like this... Back then you'd only say someone was sick…"

"Isn't this exactly what you wanted to see?"

"What I wanted to see?"

"That fate-like arrangement, if not your manipulation, then what?" Zhao Changhe sneered, "Is it so-called Heavenly Dao controlling everyone's lives, giving you some twisted sense of satisfaction in your heart?"

The blind woman said indifferently, "Heavenly Dao? ...There is no Dao in this heaven."

There is no Dao in this heaven... Zhao Changhe was stunned, unsure how to interpret these words. Was it talking about a lawless chaotic world, or was it implying a world without a main god? If it's the former, he felt that the world hadn't yet descended into complete chaos— the Empire hadn't fallen, and there was basic order. As for the latter, if there was no main god, then where did the Chaotic World Book come from?

He deliberately countered, "Why do I feel like there is a Heavenly Dao?"

The blind woman calmly asked, "Really? Have you been in the Village for too long and forgotten what the very first thing you truly saw in this world was?"

Zhao Changhe's face changed slightly.

"Just look at the other lairs of the Demon Sect, how are they?" The blind woman gestured with a delicate hand, and although the night sky remained the same, the scene before him transformed.

Zhao Changhe felt as if he were floating in the Void, looking down on the vast mortal realm from above, where the lives of people were like ants in the night.

Somewhere in a bandit stronghold, torches flickered fiercely, and the noise of revelry filled the air. A group of bandits drank and caroused, laughing loudly while the stakes around them were pierced with numerous corpses, and at the center of the ground were the inhumane acts of rape and torture, with the women's crying and wailing drifting up into the sky and dissipating like the wind.

Zhao Changhe was seething with rage: "Why don't you save them?"

The woman did not answer.

The scene abruptly changed to a mountain pass, where countless bandits swarmed towards a convoy, filling the night with screams, and blood flowed through the gullies. The bandits joyfully plundered the goods and went up the mountain to celebrate.

The scene shifted again, this time to a snowy plain where an Alien Clan on horseback streaked across the landscape, leaving a trail of bodies everywhere, with crows circling above.

The scene changed for the third time, within a Sect compound, the air heavy with the color of blood, where a distorted follower gruesomely peeled the skin from some innocent victim, offering it as a sacrifice to the Blood God.

Zhao Changhe, after watching for a while, fell silent.

The blind woman asked, "Is there Dao in heaven?"

Zhao Changhe coldly said, "What are you trying to say? Are you implying that since I became a Village Chief and joined the Demon Sect, it would only be logical for me to do such things?"

"What you do is your business," the blind woman said indifferently. "I'm just responding to your ridiculous question about the manipulation of the world. You know in your heart whether these things are born from anyone's manipulation. And whether Beimang Village or you become something, isn't it all up to you? Who has ever controlled your actions?"

Zhao Changhe took a deep breath and said directly, "I don't want to know what will happen to Beimang Mountain Village. This world has nothing to do with me! Just tell me how I can get back."

"I've already said I'm not the Heavenly Dao; I don't have the power to let people come and go freely."

"?" Zhao Changhe said, "Then how did I get here? Are you talking nonsense... uh..."

"Sending you here was through using the rules of the Heavenly Dao, similar to... making a grand vow. So, the way for you to go back is indeed to achieve your goal, that is, to kill the Demoness." The blind woman said this and slightly tilted her head, "Of course, there's a more reliable method. When you've mastered the Space-time Barrier yourself, naturally you can come and go as you please, return whenever you wish."

Zhao Changhe angrily said, "How long will that fucking take! By the time I get back, my residence registration will have expired!"

"If it really comes to that, you can naturally find a way to return to the time point before you traveled. Your family and friends might not even realize you were ever gone," the blind man said slowly. "Of course, that might be a bit far-fetched for you, given that your IQ might not even comprehend the changes in time..."

Zhao Changhe: "?"

You've been mocking me for being single since modern times, and you're still not done mocking? I'm not single anymore! Just you wait for the other things!

However, the blind man sighed and said, "It seems that the Demoness's choice is a bit simpler..."

Zhao Changhe said coldly, "How much simpler?"

"That depends on the speed of your cultivation."

"So, seeing you today is the result of breaking through to the First Layer Heaven?"

"More or less. Once the Mystical Gate is broken, one naturally feels the presence of celestial beings... As for whether it was you who felt me or me who felt you—who dreams and who is reality, who knows?"

As he spoke, the blind man's figure gradually faded, as if about to disappear.

Zhao Changhe had a lot to say, how could he let her get away with a few incomprehensible phrases and run off without a trace? Anxious, he reached out subconsciously to grab her: "Wait!"

Whether the blind man was caught off guard or the unintended effect was actually more effective than his previous deliberate attempts, he surprisingly managed to catch the blind man's hand.

The blind man seemed startled for a moment and then disappeared without a trace, leaving only a lingering fragrance in the night air.

Zhao Changhe looked down at his hand, just having felt the cool touch of white jade, soft and smooth as if boneless.

Was it a dream?

He suddenly opened his eyes.

He was still in the Village Chief's house, lying on the wooden bed. The conversation and touch he just experienced seemed to have been nothing but a dream.

He sat up and looked out the window—dawn was breaking.

Looking back at his palm, he noticed it was covered in a fine layer of sweat.

This experience, which may or may not have been a dream, might not have made any progress in decryption, but it wasn't entirely without...

At least it confirmed one thing...

The deeper his cultivation, the more likely he was to perceive the blind man, or be perceived by her.

Or perhaps there was another possibility... Maybe she perceived him and came to "Dream Entry" to communicate, not just because of the breakthrough to the First Layer Mystical Gate, but because he made it onto the Chaotic World Book?

He had no clue as to her motives before, but now it seemed he could guess some of them... Was she casting a wide net and then watching to cultivate her Gu?

Zhao Changhe suddenly felt that those who had earnestly invited her to join them in Dream Entry might also be here, and more likely, their graves were already overgrown with weeds.

In a lawless world, it's not a civilized world where everyone can live well. Her elusive presence was also a reminder.

"Village Chief! Village Chief! Trouble!" A follower rushed in from outside: "Our brothers set up a checkpoint at the foot of the mountain, originally stopping two youngsters, but then some tough characters came along and caused trouble!"

Zhao Changhe wiped his sweat, his voice sounding tired: "What, did we run into righteous heroes..."

"No, it seems to be some wild bandits from the underworld, boasting about how amazing the Hidden Dragon List top 250 is, and have specifically targeted our village today."

Zhao Changhe snorted with laughter.

Not laughing at the bandits, but at the mole.

The Hidden Dragon List shining in the sky, it looks as though trouble can come from anyone, but who knows where to find Zhao Changhe? Yue Hongling knew he was in Blood God Sect, but didn't expect him to be precisely in Beimang, causing even the Sect Hierarch to set forth and spent over a month searching for him. And others have no leads at all, yet someone shows up just a day later. How could they find him if it weren't for an internal traitor?

This mole could even be someone other than Fang Buping... It could be anyone.

"Thieves from the Demon Sect, really low-level," Zhao Changhe picked up a steel knife and strode out the door: "It just so happens I'm in a bad mood today, and these people arrived just in time. Let me see just how many heroes Beimang Road can muster!"
