Chaos Maker: The Wanderer

Chapter 9: Journey To Old World 3

After leaving, the colossal bear shrank back to its normal size—around 50 meters and then walked away, returning to its cave.

Exiting the mountain range, a thick, lush forest greeted me. Its greenery was overwhelming—tall trees towering hundreds of meters high, thick bushes everywhere, and vines climbing all the trees in the forest. From time to time, some parts of the forest were raining or covered in heavy mist. Scattered howls of monsters roared every moment, giving the forest a dangerous vibe while a fresh and cold wind passed by rustling the leaves.

I traversed the forest while hiding in plain sight, fully utilizing my stealth and silent movement skills. In that forest, I encountered many monsters, but I didn't bother to look at their forms. The forest was too dark, sometimes raining, sometimes covered in mist, reducing visibility, which was already limited in the first place. I only saw the monsters' silhouettes and never their real forms, I had an idea what types of creatures lurked in this forest if I looked closely at the silhouettes but I was lazy, so I never knew what monster they were.

I successfully crossed the forest without any problems and moved on to the next challenge—a vast, scorching desert stretching as far as I could see beneath a merciless sun, its golden dunes shifting like ocean waves frozen in time. The air wavered with shimmering heat, distorting the horizon where sand met an endless, pale blue sky. Cracked earth and scattered rock formations broke the monotony, their jagged edges carved by relentless winds. Occasional dry riverbeds snaked through the landscape, remnants of a long-forgotten time when water once graced this barren expanse. The silence was deafening, broken only by the whisper of hot winds and the distant cry of a lone scavenger circling above.

In this scorching desert, I encountered a massive sandworm.

The sandworm's enormous, elongated body stretched for 10 miles, with a width of around 500 meters. Its massive, gaping maw could swallow mountains, lined with rows of jagged, inward-facing teeth. Its skin was tough and sturdy, colored brown.

The dumb thing tried to swallow an entire area of 500 meters just to eat me, but it failed. With a single spell, I burned it to ashes until nothing was left along with the entire desert.

"Burn, Fire of the Sun."

The earth shook, and then a gargantuan pillar of high-temperature fire erupted from the depths of the earth, connecting heaven and earth, engulfing the entire desert—stretching thousands of miles in a second—with its scorching white flames of 7,000 degrees Celsius. The sandworm turned to ashes instantly, leaving nothing, while the desert melted into a sea of molten sand. The air bent from the scorching heat and the world was painted in the fire's colors. All moisture evaporated, and the nearby lands were burned and devoured by fire, turning everything to ashes. The forest was scorched, the river evaporated, and the lakes boiled.

The pillar of fire burned for one minute before dissipating completely, leaving behind a vast molten sea of sand. When it cooled down, the once-scorching desert disappeared and transformed into a glassy, crystalline expanse.

After turning the entire desert into a crystalline wasteland, I left and entered a frozen wasteland.

Even though the frozen wasteland was adjacent to the desert, it remained unaffected by my fire. Intrigued, I spent more days in this place, searching with magic detection.

Magic Detection enables the user to perceive magical energy and physical objects in their surroundings. This can range from a simple awareness of nearby or distant magic to a highly refined ability to analyze magical signatures, power levels, terrain, objects, and even specific spells. This ability functioned like a radar, perceiving anything magical within its range. The range and effectiveness of this magic depended highly on the user's mastery and strength.

After a while, I managed to find the cause—a Frozen World Tree sapling, a world tree responsible for the snow and cold temperatures within its territory.

The sapling I found was only five meters tall, with two large blue leaves and a white bark. Its wood was almost unbreakable in toughness. Satisfied with my curiosity, I left the frozen wasteland.

I entered the vast ocean, flew into the sky, and traversed the waters with ease, almost devoid of danger, crossing the ocean safely while avoiding the creatures lurking in the depths. From time to time, I encountered colossal sea monsters—sea kings, each with unique appearances, sea dragons resembling serpents, and huge fish capable of swallowing an island. Thanks to my experience in escaping and avoiding such creatures, I managed to travel peacefully across the ocean until I found land at the other end.

Setting foot on land, I continued my journey.

After a while, I ran across a raging river stretching as far as I could see. In the distance, I spotted the other side of the river—according to my calculations, it was at least four miles away. The river's flow was harsh, making crossing a tall order. Beneath its seemingly calm surface lurked terrifying creatures that would kill anyone entering their territory.

Without thinking or hesitating, I jumped into the raging river and swam across, while escaping from huge fish monsters the size of buses that were trying to swallow me whole. These creatures resembled tuna but had longer, sharper fins and teeth, along with white and blue skin.

Crossing the river, I arrived at a massive lake with no presence of life whatsoever. Spreading my magic detection, I discovered that the entire lake concealed the entrance to a massive cave system stretching trillions of miles.

I observed the lake and cave for a while before diving in and swimming across. There were no monsters or any signs of life in the lake, so it was safe to swim—unless one didn't know how to.

A couple of days later, I reached the other side and arrived at a vast icy wasteland. There was nothing to see but ice, along with some frozen animals and fossils trapped within for countless years.

I traversed the icy wasteland in the remaining days of my two-week journey. When two weeks had passed since I began, I finally reached my destination.
