Chapter 1010: Last option
Chapter 1010: Last option
Khan didn't give up or feel disheartened. The opposite, actually. His ears rang to no end, his insides filled him with uncomfortable disgust, and his left hand hurt, but only anger reached his mind. Someone had beaten him in his field without much effort, and his element couldn't let that stand.
Unreasonable urges filled Khan, but he didn't lose his sense of reason. Throughout the years, he had gotten good at balancing his wild element and battle experience, preventing him from becoming a reckless beast. Khan could still study the situation calmly, and things didn't look good.
As impossible as it sounded, Lord Mighty could infuse his existence's explosive power into every aspect of his life, be it his bulging muscles or the air flowing through his lungs. Even the supposedly weak parts of his body carried that immense strength, leaving him with no openings.
Of course, Khan realized that was the standard for evolved warriors. Meanwhile, he was the odd one out, someone still learning to navigate that superior field.
Lord Mighty's inborn physical weakness didn't disappear, but Khan had no way of exploiting them. He lacked attacks that could overcome the defenses provided by the Royal Guard's existence, which had to change if he wanted to win that fight.
Khan's kicks had failed, his spear had barely left a mark, and the Divine Reaper also couldn't reach Lord Mighty's insides. Khan had almost exhausted his arsenal but still had one last option.
Lord Mighty didn't follow Khan into the sky, but the wait was getting to his nerves. Even his excitement was slowly fading away from his face. He was enjoying the battle, but it seemed that Khan had already run out of options.
However, the following event rekindled Lord Mighty's excitement. Khan lifted his right arm, and his fingers traced bright lines in the air. A strangely familiar but also unknown rune soon took shape, and Khan grabbed it before slowly descending toward the metal floor.
Flying was Khan's greatest advantage, but he couldn't push the Royal Guard's patience any longer. Besides, it was unbecoming to keep escaping in the sky. Proving his worth meant facing Lord Mighty in his field of competence.
Needless to say, Lord Mighty's grin broadened at that sight. He showed his sharp canines while his respect for Khan improved by many levels, but the pain that followed reminded him about where he was.
Khan had suddenly materialized before Lord Mighty, slamming his knee on his flat nose. A cracking noise resounded, and blood filled the Thilku's nostrils again, but the offensive didn't end there.
Lord Mighty shouted, releasing a soundwave, but Khan had already departed, leaving a mark on his forehead. A vertical cut expanded above the Royal Guard's right eye for a while, releasing a few drops of blood before partially closing.
Khan reappeared at some distance from Lord Mighty, his body covered in clotted blood vessels. The soundwave finally reached him, but its remaining power was something his alien defensive spell could endure. The impact was painful and threatened to destabilize the rune in his hand, but he ignored those problems.
Lord Mighty ignored his new injuries and turned to his right. Khan had appeared there, but his roundhouse kick remained too fast for the Royal Guard, who could only let it land on the hole that acted as his ear. Something sharp also flew toward him, forcing him to close his left eye to protect it.
A hole opened on the Royal Guard's left eyelid but failed to pierce it. Blood seeped out of that thin but resilient membrane, but the eye behind it remained safe. Lord Mighty promptly reopened it, spinning to swing his left arm behind him.
Khan reappeared exactly where Lord Mighty had predicted, but his attack had been faster once again. He delivered a precise kick at the Thilku's shoulder, dispersing his momentum and allowing him to stand on it safely. Lord Mighty tried to resume his spinning motion, but an invisible blow landed on his left arm, threatening to make him bend sideways.
Lord Mighty ignored the downward momentum and tilted his head forward, saving his left eye once again. A horizontal cut opened above it, missing it by a mere centimeter. Khan was trying to blind him, but his body was getting used to that speed.
Khan felt no disappointment, annoyance, or impatience. The rune was still amassing mana in his palm, but he didn't dare to rely solely on it. His attacks still caused some damage, and he was willing to unleash an endless number of them to take Lord Mighty down. Khan might be unable to defeat his opponent in a single blow but was ready to test whether a thousand would work.
Many similar exchanges followed. Khan always remained one step ahead of Lord Mighty, chaining kicks and slashes to litter his huge body with injuries.
Meanwhile, Lord Mighty remained unperturbed, enduring anything that landed on his body while swinging his arms, shouting, or attempting to catch Khan.
The two seemed to have fallen into a stalemate, and appearances worked in Khan's favor. The damage he inflicted was shallow, but he never failed to deliver it. Yet, an expert eye would see the dangerous game he was playing.
Khan's timing was perfect, and his attacks were devious. He always targeted Lord Mighty's sensitive areas, mainly focusing on his eyes. Removing the Royal Guard's sight would tilt the scales of battle in his favor, and he didn't hesitate to rely on that strategy.
However, that prolonged battle strategy heavily depended on Khan's perfect form. It would only take one mistake for Lord Mighty to crush Khan, and even its absence didn't bode well for him.
Lord Mighty should have felt overwhelmed but was only getting faster. His perception was quite terrible, but his battle sense was incredible. He gradually started to guess where Khan would attack next, even predicting his following moves.
The situation became so critical that Khan felt forced to kick Lord Mighty's punch at some point, attempting to disperse its momentum. Yet, his attack fell short, and the fist's remaining force pushed him back.
Khan only flew back for a few meters before slamming his feet on the metal floor and lifting his right hand, releasing the rune. The bright symbol had finally accumulated enough energy, and he punched it to unleash it.
Lord Mighty didn't stop his attack at all. Khan had partially interrupted it, but new strength filled it as he continued to lunge his arm forward. The world turned purple-red in the meantime, and a massive wave of destructive energy threatened to engulf the Royal Guard, but the event only fueled his excitement, triggering a genuine shout.
"[For. The. Emperor]!" Lord Mighty cried as more energy poured into his attack, and the world shook, unable to withstand the imminent clash.
