Chapter 39: 39. Unleashing the Monstrosity on the world.
(Guys, this week's goal was 600PS and we didn't accomplish that... Well, how low do we have fallen, let's aim for 500 PS this week.
Whether this fic would continue or not would depend on the support I would get.)
Akeru was shocked when he saw the man disappear from all his sights and his Ki.
'Damn, his spell is similar to my "Silent Nobody" though it's not as good as mine,' Akeru thought while noticing some red lines on the man, though he still couldn't determine their source.
He had deployed his mana zone in a spherical radius around him exactly at the moment he felt the man disappear from his senses.
John's eyes widened as he felt his speed drastically reduced to multiple folds slower than even his normal speed when he approached the boy.
'Viscous Hush'
Everything in this domain was hushed to 1/100th of its speed.
Akeru had previously found a way to hide his usage of mana with a stealth rune he created.
This allowed him to freely use his methods without anyone being able to sense his mana reserves exactly.
"I was really looking forward to the battle, but it seems it was bound to be boring," Akeru said, shaking his head while a water claw materialized near the man's neck.
Suddenly, Akeru's eyes widened.
A pendant on John's neck glowed red, and a magic circle appeared on his body.
'Daylight Magic: Four-Hundred Fold.' Veins were visibly throbbing on his body.
The man's speed increased twentyfold again, and he barely dodged the water claw while dashing backward.
'Forbidden Magic,' Akeru thought while rushing at him with his mana zone extending along with him.
'His speed would be 100 times faster than mine outside my mana zone. Unluckily for him, he's not going to leave this zone alive,' Akeru coldly thought.
With his current speed, John could pose a threat even to a captain.
However, due to their matching speed within the zone, the distance between them remained the same.
But with each passing second, John was losing years of his lifespan.
'I need to stall for a few—' John's internal thoughts halted as his head was detached from his body by a water blade.
Just like that, John, the right-hand man of the unnamed granny, who had three years ago been offered the task of chasing Akeru, was killed within three seconds of entering Akeru's domain.
In the next instant, a hand made of water appeared near John's body and crushed it into a pulp.
'I don't really want to take chances with a body that used forbidden magic. Who knows if it would explode or not?'
After two more seconds, only blood remained.
Cherry blossoms clashed with yellow beams of energy.
"Your ugly magic doesn't stand a chance against my beautiful magic," Kirsch said.
Suddenly, a large sword made of cherry blossoms appeared in Kirsch's hand, and countless cherry blossoms surged toward the granny.
A yellow shield formed around her.
'This is nuts. Though I was first-class in my prime, I don't recall the gap between first and second class being this large,' the granny bitterly thought.
She had to expend a lot of mana just to ensure the energy barrier didn't break.
"I would like to know why you kidnapped the children?"
"Hmph, mind your own business," she venomously replied as the onslaught of cherry blossoms finally ceased.
Suddenly, her limbs glowed yellow, and she appeared above Kirsch with an axe kick, threatening to crush his head.
"How barbaric," Kirsch said, sidestepping and punching toward the granny.
She launched energy from her foot and backed away.
'How annoying. It seems mana enhancement is not his weak point either. I hope John quickly deals with the boy and helps me... though it won't be required soon anyway,' she thought while landing on the ground.
"I—"
Both of them suddenly looked in the same direction, seeing a forbidden magic circle on John's body.
'He pushed him to use that spell? Wait! Is that a mana zone?' The granny felt the biggest shock of her life as she witnessed Akeru using a mana zone.
Her shock turned to horror as she watched her right-hand man's head detach from his body.
'He's Vice-Captain level!?' She gulped as she saw him staring at her.
Suddenly, she felt something.
"HAHAHAHAHA!" She began laughing like a madwoman.
'Has she finally gone insane?' Akeru thought while looking at her.
Suddenly, his eyes widened as he felt an unsettling Ki nearby.
'This is BAD. REALLY BAD,' Akeru thought, glancing at Kirsch, who was oblivious to the threat.
"I WON! FINALLY!" she laughed maniacally.
Akeru appeared near Kirsch. "I have a bad feeling about this."
Before Kirsch could question him, they suddenly felt a massive amount of malicious mana nearby.
'So big,' Akeru thought, feeling the pressure from the mana.
"Do you know what I summoned? A freaking mid-ranking devil! My years of work in the dark have finally paid off!" The granny didn't mind giving away the information.
In her eyes, they were already dead.
"Kirsch!" Akeru called.
The man was already at work, retrieving an artifact and calling for help while mentioning the threat.
"I will finally rule the wor—"
Akeru watched in horror as the granny's head detached from her body.
A black humanoid creature appeared behind her and began devouring her flesh.
Akeru resisted the urge to vomit but held it in.
The pressure the creature emanated was overwhelming.
It took the devil around a minute to finish its meal, but neither Kirsch nor Akeru moved.
Akeru had already activated 'Still Spectator' long before, as he realized there was no way to win without gaining information.
He had analyzed the creature in that long minute.
The devil had green eyes and a round belly. Though not tall, it was nearly six feet in height and had green horns.
"Not bad. Though I wonder how your meat would taste?" The devil looked at them like a predator.
"We need to destroy its heart to kill it," Kirsch said to Akeru.
Akeru deactivated his focus spell and nodded.
Suddenly, Akeru felt his world change.
'Huh?' He found himself sitting on a chair with a laptop in front of him.
He looked around and found himself in a room.
The room was small but spacious as there wasn't much furniture.
Certificates and posters adorned the walls.
Akeru got up from the chair and went near the window.
He looked down at numerous automobiles moving on the road.
He closed his eyes.
'Fuck, I can't feel my mana at all.'
Suddenly, Akeru had a bad feeling.
'WAIT!!! Don't tell me it was all a dream? I didn't actually transmigrate? No way!' Panic coursed through Akeru's entire body.
He immediately crushed the panic and sat on his chair.
He closed his eyes and tried to focus on his mana.
'Let's try to replicate the state Still Spectator gives me. There's a chance it could help me activate the spell indirectly.'
Akeru tuned out everything, focusing on the part where he stored most of his mana.
Ironically, grimoires don't magically create spells out of nowhere; they are still created by the user.
This was also the reason it was possible to upgrade a spell or learn it on one's own.
Akeru immediately entered a state of flow due to the familiarity of the task.
An unknown amount of time passed for him.
'Tch, I can't enter immersion through this alone. Let's simulate some battles in my mind; it should be my best bet.' Akeru immediately changed his focus.
He chose to battle his future captain.
Red and blue lights continuously clashed as he entered a mental simulation with Yami.
Despite not having much interaction with Yami, his canon knowledge helped him create a better simulation.
He had long ago entered a state of flow.
He could feel himself close to immersion in his mind, yet very far from the actual thing, as he knew what immersion signified due to experiencing it many times with the help of his spell.
Suddenly, Akeru felt a red line on him increasing in intensity quickly.
However, unlike in the mental simulation, this was a line on him.
Akeru smirked.
Even with his eyes closed, he felt the world slowing down—or rather, his thought process speeding up.
He focused on the red line, and the world shattered around him.
He saw Kirsch's mana-enhanced hands coming toward his neck.
