Chapter 3: SPARKS OF DEATH
Sallie and Jexter had been searching for another source of Oncolyte for hours, and finally, they had pinpointed a location. As they arrived at the site, Sallie's heart was racing with excitement and hope. They had to get the Oncolyte to save her mother.
As they entered the abandoned warehouse, Sallie's eyes adjusted to the dim light. Suddenly, Jexter stopped in her tracks, her eyes fixed on something.
"What is it?" Sallie whispered.
Jexter's gaze didn't waver. "We're not alone."
Sallie's eyes scanned the room, and that's when she saw a tall, imposing figure with skin that seemed to shift and ripple like electricity.
"Who are you?" Sallie demanded, trying to keep her voice steady. The figure smiled, his eyes gleaming with an otherworldly energy. "I am Sparkleon, a Voltian. And I'm here for the Oncolyte."
Sallie's eyes widened in shock. Another alien species? But Jexter seemed unsurprised, her expression calm and collected.
Sparkleon's gaze locked onto the Oncolyte, which was nestled in a crate nearby. "The Oncolyte is a powerful energy source. It supercharges the powers of Voltians like me. I'm here for it."
Sallie's heart sank. She recalled what Jexter told her about the Oncolyte having different effects on different species. They couldn't let Sparkleon get his hands on the Oncolyte. Not now, when they were so close to saving her mother.
Jexter stepped forward, her eyes flashing with a fierce determination. "You're not taking it! Not while I'm here."
Sparkleon sneered, his electricity-based powers crackling to life. "You think you can stop me, Xilorian? I'll show you the true meaning of power!"
The air was electric with tension as Sparkleon and Jexter faced off. Sallie watched in awe as the two aliens clashed, their powers locked in a fierce battle.
Sparkleon unleashed a bolt of electricity, but Jexter was ready. She summoned a wave of icy cold air, deflecting the attack with ease. Sparkleon retaliated with a burst of lightning-fast punches, but Jexter dodged and weaved, her agility and quick reflexes allowing her to avoid the blows.
As the fight raged on, Sallie found herself mesmerized by Jexter's skills. She had never seen anything like it before. Jexter's powers were unlike anything she had ever imagined, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and awe. The battle was intense but finally, Jexter landed a decisive blow, striking Sparkleon with a blast of frozen energy that sent him crashing to the ground.
Sallie cheered, impressed by Jexter's victory. "Wow, Jexter! You're amazing!" Jexter smiled, her eyes gleaming with pride.
"Thanks, Sallie. Let's get the Oncolyte and get out of here." Sallie's heart was racing with hope. They were going to save her mother.
The duo made their way to the hospital on Sallie's bike. On their way, Jexter couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched. "Sparkleon is following us," she whispered to Sallie. Sallie was confused because all she noticed was that the streets lights were blinking but she couldn't see anyone following them. Jexter then explained that Voltians have a unique ability of transforming themselves into electric currents to travel through metals just like electricity does. That explains how Sparkleon was following them through the street lights.
As they rushed into the hospital, Sallie's heart was racing with anticipation. They had the Oncolyte, and they were going to save her mother.
But as they entered Sandra's room, Sallie's heart sank. Her mother's condition had worsened because the cancer has spread to nearly every part of her body. She was sleeping and nearly on the brink of death. Jexter quickly administered the Oncolyte, and Sallie watched anxiously as the energy coursed through her mother's veins. It will only be a matter of time before the mineral will heal her.
Unfortunately, Sparkleon appeared out of nowhere by transitioning from his electric current state into his physical form. He electrocutes all the doctors and other staffs on his way to Sandra's room. The light bulb in Sandra's rooms starts to blink depicting that the electricity in the entire building is being disturbed. Jexter quickly realizes that this was due to Sparkleon's presence. Sallie felt tensed because now that her mother was being cured, another threat to their lives has emerged.
Jexter confronts an enraged Sparkleon and the two aliens fight again, their powers locked in a fierce battle. Jexter fights Sparkleon to buy Sallie more time so that the Oncolyte can fully heal her mother. Sparkleon's powers proved too strong this time around. He absorbs the electricity from the entire hospital and launches a huge blast at Jexter, knocking her out.
Sparkleon enters Sandra's room and finds both Sallie and Sandra there. Sallie tries to defend her mother, who seems to be gradually recovering due to the Oncolyte's healing effects.
Sparkleon effortlessly throws Sallie over the room with ease since she had no super powers. He sensed that the Oncolyte had already been absorbed into Sandra's blood stream. In act of determination to get it, he uses a burst of electricity to attack Sandra.
Sallie's world went dark as she watched in horror, unable to do anything to stop Sparkleon. Jexter who had later gained consciousness enters the rooms but it was too late. The electricity had already struck Sandra, and she was gone along with the Oncolyte in her body. Sallie's world crumbled around her as she held her mother's lifeless body in her arms. She had lost her only family member, the person she loved most in the world. She was consumed by grief and anger.
Jexter's arms wrapped around her, holding her close. "I'm so sorry, Sallie. I'm here for you."
As Sallie mourned her mother's loss, Sparkleon stood frozen, his eyes filled with guilt. He knew he had gone too far. Without a word, he turned and disappeared into the night.
Sallie eyes are still filled with tears, then she asks Jexter, "What do we do?"
