Better than the returner

.....John's POV....

I need to hurry and prepare for the descent. This time i will save those close to me but first i have unfinished business to attend to. Standing in front my foster parent's house.

I am an orphan who was left with a large inheritance by my deceased parents. I was then taken in by a foster family who would care for me or so i thought. It turns out all they cared about was the money left by my parents.

I was treated like a discarded piece of trash in this place, they never cared if i was bullied and just waited for me to reach of age so that they can my inheritance.

But then the descent came causing the existing order to collapse, money lost its value and the system that descended was different from the one in video games but one thing it emphasized was might makes right.

I stared at the place that carried my childhood nightmares and opened the door. A family sat gathering to eat dinner but their faces changed on seeing me.My foster parents sat there.

A big bellied man sat there with a newspaper on his as he said

"Why is your uniform dirty"

"I was bullied by some of the kids at school"

"Tsk you can't even take care of the uniform i bought for you"

I didn't speak back cause i knew doing so will lead to more problems. I am currently not strong enough to get my revenge as of yet so i shut my mouth and walked to my room

On my way i met the person i hate to the core.My second step sister Jennifer because of her i lost everything in during the first part of the descent. My naive past self was tricked by her into giving her access to the treasure we had found in the dungeon.

It turns out she awoke a dangerous initiate ability that allows her to charm and manipulate people around her. She turned us into her puppets and reaped all the benefits which prevented us from growing in the earlier stages while become one of powerful ranker.

Standing in front of me was a beautiful dark purple haired older girl with a curvy body and large ass.To be honest sometimes i wonder how my foster parent were able to give birth to such a young lady but just like her parents her attitude to me is no different.

"What do you think your staring at"

"HUH"

"I can't believe am living with a trash pervert like you in the same house"

She flicked her hair to the right and walked past me with a disgusted expression. For a moment i was stunned, Turning to my step sister i could tell she had used her ability without knowing.

Charm, an ability that affect the mind causing the other to be attracted to them and if used properly can turn one into their love slave.

The reason i had return here and not gone to find any opportunities was because i had to get rid of Jennifer before the descent.

Charm may seem like a powerful ability but that is only in the early stages. The problem is by the time people found ways to deal with it, she hard amassed a lot of strength and was backed by other powerful rankers. She still died later on after a proper counter was found.

But still the damage she caused in the early stages weakened many talents.

I walked to my room and prepared for what i must do tonight.

.....Late in the night.....

The door of my room opened slowly and i moved out quietly and in my hand was a kitchen knife, i reached Jennifer's room and turned the door handle.

I slipped through without causing any noise but when i reach her bed, i raised the knife and opened the blacket. Unfortunately i saw a pile of pillows stacked together, i quickly looked around and saw the the window was open.

A frown formed on my face, i had failed to eliminated my target. It seems she had snack out to party with her friends.

"sigh"

"I need to get Kevin on my side his ability will be useful in eliminating her, for now she can live a little longer"

"My revenge is inevitable"

.....Damiens' POV.....(the next day)

It's 20 minutes to midday. That's when the descent starts, looking around there are a few people missing. John is not around and he must be trying to recruit Kevin, Jake and Alex are also not here cause i asked them to wait for me on the roof.

Yesterday i explained a few things to Alex about the descent. I didn't tell him the source of the information or any future knowledge.

Despite the teacher teaching in class, i stood up and walked out. I could see the irritation in his eyes but could do nothing, not paying him any mind i walked up to the roof.

There Jake and Alex stood waiting for me.

On seing me Jake asked

"Boss, what's going on Alex said its something serious "

I did not answer his question and said

"Jake, you said if the world was to end you would do whatever it takes to survive"

"I did say that so what are you getting at"

"If i was the way out would you follow me"

".....boss why ar....."

"Jake answer me now this is your last chance"

Jake seemed hesitant and confused at what was going on but seeing Damien was serious, he answered

"Fine i will follow you if the world were to end"

Damien smiled seeing he had achieved his goal. He turned to Jake and activated his ability then a golden glow covered Jake boosting his strenght but it only lasted for a second before disappearing.

Despite having many questions, he was left speechless by what had happened to him. He didn't even know what to ask. But then he thought about what Damien had said

'if the world were to end'

Determination surged in his eyes and he said

"I won't even ask about what that was but if i were to follow you can you protect my family"

Even Alex seemed to react to this and looked at me. I was a little surprised by his response but quickly said

"If you are usefull then i will extend my protection to your loved ones"

"Then i will follow you to the end of the world"

"Jake there is some thing i wan't to know, are you special like us. Both me and Alex posses abilities"

Jake was shock by the revelation that Alex also had an ability and turned to the latter who just nodded. Jake realized he had to prove his worth

"How do i tell if i have an ability"

"Just focus within yourself and you will find it but you should hurry you only have 10 minutes before IT starts"

Hearing Damien, Jake realized he didn't have alot of time. He sat down and focused.

one....two...three minutes passed while Jake sat there.

Alex seemed tired of waiting and walked to Jake then bent down to tap him, but then Jake opened his eyes and held Alex's wrist.

Alex was amused by this and tried to pull back but to his surprise it wasn't that had stop instead his whole body could move. Jake begun to grin but before he could celebrate an invisible force gripped his neck

Seeing that they were going to fight i stepped in.

"ENOUGH, it not yet time to fight"

Both understood my warning and realised each other

"Not bad Jake, for a moment you had got me"

"What the hell was that around my neck. Is that your ability"

Jake and Alex talked about their ability. Alex's ability is telekinesis while Jake's ability is paralysis touch

It freezes any living being he comes in contact with.

Seeing this i smiled Jacks ability is useful for the enemies we are going to face

Time ticked and finally at reach
