Became the Queen of the Legion

Chapter 11 - Mutant (1)

“There’s no need to let them escape and advertise us everywhere.”

Their battle with the goblin hunting party could hardly be called a battle. It was more like hunting or a typical massacre.

While the workers she sent after collected the goblins’ corpses, she continued to command her troops.

She was already monitoring their nest in real-time. Able to directly share the scouts’ vision, she watched the goblins’ actions in real-time while spreading out her troops.

She intended to surround the goblin nest and sweep it away in one go.

It would be a loss, not a gain, if escaping goblins spread their identity everywhere unnecessarily.

‘We’ll ambush and wait until night.’

She decided to go a step further and wait until nightfall when the sun sets.

The sun will set soon anyway, and the goblins with poor night vision will light fires in the village to spend the night.

On the other hand, her soldiers have good night vision.

Originally, Black Death Worms didn’t have very good eyesight as they lived digging tunnels, but among the various prey they had steadily hunted so far, there were species with excellent eyesight and night vision.

[The sun is setting]

As time passed, the sun slowly went down and the surroundings began to darken.

The goblins didn’t have much time left. Meanwhile, the goblin chieftain was sighing at the sight of the hunting party that hadn’t returned for a while.

“These stupid ones, I told them it’s okay to go far, but did they really go too far? If I had known this would happen, I should have sent at least one warrior with them.”

The chieftain, regretting that it seemed to be a mistake to send only low-intelligence common individuals, thought he should have sent a special individual of the warrior class with higher intelligence as the leader.

Given that their combat power inevitably decreases at night compared to daytime, the chieftain decided to just think that the hunting party had died, considering the high probability that they wouldn’t return alive.

“Start lighting the fires. Consider those who haven’t returned as dead. They’ll be punished if they return.”

He started patrolling the village with his staff, urging the goblins and instructing them to light torches here and there.

“…Huh?”

That’s when he discovered them.

The chieftain’s eyes widened as he looked at the forest ahead, now completely dark, before directly placing the torch.

‘What on earth is that?’

A faint red light glowing in the darkness was visible.

The chieftain stared at it as if entranced. Then he saw that the red light was increasing one by one and slowly approaching.

“…!”

The chieftain’s mouth gaped open as he realized that the glowing red light was an artificial eye glow created by synthesizing the eye structures of not a few living beings.

“H-how many are there!”

Hundreds of eye glows were flashing from the front, approaching rapidly without making any noise. The chieftain, who let out a squeak without realizing it, hurriedly woke up all the goblins and ordered them to prepare for battle.

“It’s too late.”

At the same time, she, who was watching this scene by possessing a subordinate’s body, immediately gave the order to charge.

“Kieeek!”

“Monsters! They’re monsters!”

The goblins in emergency ran out with their weapons, in utter chaos and confusion.

But the monsters already surrounding them flashed their red eyes gleaming from gaps in their exoskeletons and instantly broke through and climbed over the palisades and earthen walls the goblins had built.

“Arrows don’t work!”

A goblin archer was shocked to see a monster deflecting the arrow he shot.

The arrow was made from the shell of Urgle, known as the demonic beast with the hardest shell, but the exoskeleton of the huge enemy charging from the front deflected it.

That scorpion-like creature held large blades on its arms that could cross like scissors instead of pincers, and wore a tougher back shell instead of a tail sting.

This creature, which had become a kind of shock trooper, instantly broke through the palisade the goblins had built with its crossed arms, allowing countless troops following behind to pour into the village.

“N-no! Take positions!”

The chieftain screamed as he saw the village where a chaotic battle had broken out with the intruding monsters.

He instinctively realized that these unidentified enemies who had just invaded were not simply a group of demonic beasts, but a kind of army with a system.

And in a battle between armies, what’s important is to form precise formations on both sides and unite the power of the collective.

That was one of the advantages that intelligent beings could have, and how goblins could make large demonic beasts their prey.

“Aah…”

However, that wasn’t happening now. The monsters, which were much larger and stronger than goblins in one-on-one combat, began to slaughter the goblins quickly.

The chieftain staggered as he saw his soldiers being pierced by sharp front legs and penetrated by venomous fangs.

“Chief! This won’t do! We have to escape!”

“Tur!”

Of course, the goblins weren’t completely without hope.

A goblin wearing armor and wielding a sword made from demonic beast hide and shells consecutively cut off the arms and head of an enemy that lunged at him, bringing it down.

There were indeed a few goblin warriors showing such feats.

Like the chieftain, they were ones who inherited special traits from their mother.

* * *

“So those are them. The special goblins.”

She recognized them too. The individuals that were essentially at the center of the goblins, differentiated by color or size, were the core even when enjoying the game.

‘What would happen if we eat them? How different are they genetically from ordinary goblins?’

She found herself licking her lips as she saw those special goblins cutting down and overthrowing her soldiers.

Instead of being wary or afraid, she first thought about the rewards that could be gained by devouring them.

“The others don’t matter. Prioritize catching those ones.”

Ordinary goblins would have a hard time surviving whether they escaped or not.

Therefore, she focused her strength on those who were desperately trying to break through the encirclement and escape along with the chieftain.

“Chief, there are too many!”

Surrounded by layers of monsters much larger than themselves, they panted rough breaths.

Even they could notice that these crazy monsters were targeting them centrally.

“Kugh!”

Especially the massive weight and solid armor of the giant shock troopers were walls that even they couldn’t break through.

A goblin warrior raised two swords to barely block the giant blades of a shock trooper flying from both sides to cleanly cut him.

“Uoooooh!!”

He squeezed out power beyond his limits to overcome that enormous difference in weight class.

‘That is magic power. The core of demon realm civilization.’

A power allowed only to demon races.

She quietly marveled as she saw, through the eyes of the shock trooper she possessed, the small goblin warrior blocking her blade.

The goblin warrior who inherited that special power from his mother could handle power that transcended laws.

“But even that has its limits.”

She smirked and applied more force, accepting that the arms of the soldier she possessed would break and shatter, and finally the goblin warrior’s strength gave way.

“No! Tur!”

The moment his sword slipped and his arm broke, the front leg blades crossed in an instant, cutting the goblin warrior’s body in half along with his armor.

As the goblin warrior’s body parts fell with a splash of blood, the goblin chieftain, dumbfounded, collapsed to the ground.

“Bring that one alive.”

While the chieftain despaired at the death of his brother, comrade, and capable subordinate, she ordered the slaughter of all goblins except the goblin chieftain, who had enough intelligence to have a smooth conversation with her.

[No more living individuals are visible]

Although it was still a long time until sunrise, the ambushed goblin village was already completely devastated.

She hunted almost all of the goblins as intended.

There might be one or two individuals who escaped. However, she didn’t care about that.

“Collect the spoils.”

Although she had prepared thoroughly, the battle ended easily with a well-executed ambush.

Not only workers but also combat troops were mobilized to start a march back to the nest, proudly carrying the corpses of the slaughtered goblins in their mouths.

The goblin chieftain, who had fiercely resisted and been roughly subdued, was also hanging limply from the jaws of one combat troop.

[It’s inefficient to devise a diplomatic route at this point]

“It’s not like that. I just want to talk with a somewhat sane opponent, that’s all.”

The system misunderstood that she had other intentions in capturing the goblin chieftain alive, but she shook her head with a hollow laugh.

She had found an interlocutor for the first time since possessing the queen in this world. It was natural for her to be interested.

‘These monster bastards… why on earth…’

Of course, the goblin chieftain, who had opened his eyes faintly, was just trembling in fear, unable to understand what purpose these unknown monsters had.
