Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 293: Feng Foxes vs. Shizi Dogs (3)

The crowd was buzzing with excitement.

Miss Cherry stood from her seat, clapping as she looked at Kai with wide eyes.

"He's actually really good!" she exclaimed.

Sir Dao scoffed and was about to negate her words when the students next to them, who looked like a bunch of troublemakers, agreed enthusiastically.

"Our brother, Kai, is the best basketball player in the whole world!" the bald student with a neck tattoo exclaimed.

Sir Dao placed his hand over his heart, feeling like he was going to have an attack.

"Goodness," he muttered. "Kids these days."

Miss Cherry smiled politely. "Are you a fan of Kai's?"

"Not only a fan," the student smiled. "He's our boss."

"Oh," Miss Cherry said, taken aback.

"We, the Angs, will forever be loyal to him!" he exclaimed with passionate eyes.

Meanwhile, the cheerleaders made a quick chant while Kai positioned himself on the free-throw line.

"Let's go, Shizi Dogs, fight with all your might!

We're the underdogs; we'll take this to new heights!"

Without a doubt, Kai's shot had stunned everyone.

Andy shook his head in amusement. "He's really an annoying shooter," he muttered. "How did he even get that one in?"

Meanwhile, Yiming shook his head as he felt he was outwitted by Kai.

The scoreboard read 7-4, a three-point lead.

With Kai sinking the free-throw, he narrowed it to a two-point lead.

Zeren frowned as he observed his past teammates.

"He's gotten even better at shooting," he said.

Coach Ben's eyebrows furrowed. "Did the Shizi Dogs do anything special for shooting practice?" he asked.

Zeren clicked his tongue. "We didn't," he said. "Something changed."

With a two-point gap in their hands, the Shizi Dogs were determined to tie the score.

However, Chunlei wasn't about to let them get comfortable. As the Foxes took possession, he moved with the precision of a seasoned warrior.

The ball seemed to disappear in his hands as he approached the three-point line.

He glanced toward Yiming, making it look like a pass was coming. The defense shifted, eyes darting to Yiming, anticipating the pass. But it was a fake.

Chunlei kept the ball and darted toward the basket. Yiming, reading his cue perfectly, cut through the lane. Chunlei executed a flawless lob, and Yiming rose above the rim, slamming the ball through.

9-5.

"A great play from the original duo of Feng Arts High!" Mark exclaimed. "It feels like it's been a while since I've seen such an aggressive play from the two, yet it never gets old!"

The Feng cheerleaders also did a routine, subtly competing with the cheerleading team of Shizi High.

He had committed a lot of mistakes in the past minutes, so he was determined to show that they still had a fighting chance.

He found an opening and moved in for a shot. They had practiced this a hundred times during their Saturday Training.

But as he leaped, Bocheng came out of nowhere, blocking the shot with a perfectly timed leap. The ball was deflected, and Kexin scooped it up. Without hesitation, Kexin moved to the perimeter and released a three-pointer. The ball sailed through the air and hit nothing but the net.

12-5,

"What a game we have here, folks! Chunlei is on fire tonight, and the Feng Foxes are showing why they're the team to beat. That was a fantastic block by Bocheng and a sure shot by Kexin! The Shizi Dogs need to regroup quickly if they want to stay in this game."

Chunlei, still energized, took the ball again.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Kun approaching. They squared off, eyes locked in a silent battle of wills. Chunlei feinted left, then spun right, bypassing Kun with a burst of speed. He released the ball just as Yiming fought off Kai's advances.

Mark's voice boomed through the speakers, "Chunlei is unstoppable tonight! Another perfect shot. The score is now 14-5, and the Shizi Dogs are struggling to keep up."

Chunlei and Kun faced each other once more. Meanwhile, Yiming found himself once again matched against Kai.

This time, Kai managed to slip past Yiming, his movements quicker and more decisive than before. But it was too late. Chunlei had already beaten Kun and was heading toward the basket. With a leap, he took his shot, and the ball swished through the net.

16-5.

The crowd was in awe.

The Shizi Dogs had improved. There was no doubt about that.

But the Feng Foxes still felt like an unbeatable force. Their supporters looked confused and a bit disheartened. Maybe it was still too early for the Shizi Dogs to challenge the reigning champions.

Sir Dao yawned, not even bothering to cover his mouth.

"Why did you guys invite me to this game?" he asked.

"History will always repeat itself! I have watched their game during the Winter Cup, and it was the same as this," he continued.

Miss Cherry frowned. "What do you mean?"

"It felt like the Shizi Dogs had a chance because they did well before the game. But they're still not ready. At the end of the day, they're just a decent team—not the best, not even great."

With the two-digit lead, Shizi High's supporters began to doubt if the Dogs would be able to beat the second-best school in the entire city.

However, Kai wasn't ready to give up.

He tried one last time to stop Chunlei. He pushed himself, his muscles burning with effort, but Yiming was right on his tail.

Kun, too, appeared to be exhausted. Chunlei had already outmaneuvered him and was in position for another shot.

Yiming clicked his tongue as Kai arrived right in front of Chunlei.

"So fast," he muttered, already feeling breathless.

Kai stood his ground, facing Chunlei head-on. Chunlei smirked, confident and calm.

He shot the ball with a quick flick of his wrist. Kai didn't have enough time to react.

The ball sailed past him and into the basket.

18-5.

Kai stood there, frozen.

The reality of Chunlei's skill hit him hard.

Yiming smirked as he gazed at Kai's frozen figure.

Yiming walked over, placing a hand on Kai's shoulder. Then, he leaned closer to him. He had already accepted the reality—Kai was better than him.

However, even then, the Shizi Dogs still had a long way to go.

"You might be able to beat me, but you can never beat Chunlei. So, keep dreaming," Yiming whispered.

Kai clenched his fists, his mind racing. He turned to face their bench and signaled for a time-out to Coach Muchen and Lina.

Lina and Muchen turned to each other with worried expressions before calling the professional scorer's table attention.

"Time-out!"
