Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 291: Feng Foxes vs. Shizi Dogs (1)

"Did he just...catch the ball without looking?" Lina muttered from the bench.

Whispers filled the court as they looked at Kai, who was still holding onto the ball with one hand.

Jinping clicked his tongue. "Now, he's just showing off," he muttered.

Yuze shook his head since Kai was delaying the game. With that, he went over to where he was and held onto the pinna of his ear.

Kai's eyes widened when pain shot through his scalp.

"Oww!" he exclaimed as Yuze dragged him over to their bench with his ear.

The crowd couldn't help but chuckle at the turn of events, concluding that the Dogs must be close for their captain to be able to do such actions.

Sir Dao clicked his tongue. "That guy is still causing trouble."

"Who? Kai?" Miss Cherry asked.

"Yes," he asked. "He already got a haircut, but he still has that thuggish personality."

"I think he's a good young man," Miss Cherry said. "I thought he would be troublesome at first, but he hasn't caused any trouble since he came to Shizi High."

Sir Dao clicked his tongue.

"He's also quite good-looking," she added. "He's become popular with the girls in school. Even your daughter—"

"Presenting the first five of the Feng Foxes!"

Mark's voice interrupted their conversation, so they fully focused their attention on the court.

"Number 4, Bocheng Ding!"

The big and tall center jogged to the center line with a determined expression.

"Number 7, Yiming Yang!"

The crowd burst into cheers as the popular player made its way to their side.

"Let's go, Captain!" his teammates cheered from the side.

He kept his gaze at the Shizi Dogs, not an ounce of humor seen in his eyes.

"Number 11, Shilei Ma!"

Shilei, like Yiming, appeared more serious than ever. From the looks on their faces, it was almost as if they were in the finals. However, they were still in the second round of the league.

"Number 14, Kexin Wu!"

Kexin, as always, wore a smirk as he made his way to the court.

With each name being called, the crowd began to speculate.

"That's already four of their starting players."

"Are they going full force against the Shizi Dogs?"

"And," Mark Li started off, building anticipation for the last player to join the first quarter.

"Number 24, Chunlei Dong!"

Chunlei walked to the center in a relaxed manner, even bowing to the audience.

"It's really a full house!"

"They're not holding back!"

The Shizi Dogs glanced at each other.

Kai nudged Lina's shoulder and smiled. The lady turned away for a moment.

"What is it?" she asked.

"Did you take my advice into consideration?" he asked.

Lina sighed and nodded. "Yeah," she said. "Let's see how the course of the game goes."

"And now, for the Shizi Dogs...," Mark continued.

The crowd screamed once more, almost in the same caliber as that of the Feng Foxes.

"Number 4, Yuze Chen!"

As expected, the screams for Yuze were loud and booming. He was already a popular member before the team got more known, and his popularity increased since then.

"Number 6, Kun Tian!"

"Number 8, Jet Lee!"

"Number 13, Jinping Wong!"

"And Number 16, Kai Guo!"

Without a doubt, the screams for Kai were the loudest. It was filled with squeals and exclamations regarding his looks.

Some boys in the crowd were relatively silent when Kai went to the center, still skeptical about his skill because of his physical looks.

The girls from Juren High held their breaths as they looked at Kai.

"Is this worth traveling 2 hours on the plane for?" one of them asked.

"Yes," the prettiest girl said with bright eyes. "A hundred percent."

"We've played with all of them before," Yiming said as he observed the five players.

They stood in a straight line, facing each other with determined gazes.

The referee signaled for them to shake hands, and they did.

They gripped each other's hands like the match had already started.

Yiming smirked as Kai took his hand, giving it a firm squeeze.

"Good luck," Yiming said.

Kai smiled at him as a response. However, his smile quickly fell as he went to his position, now replaced with a serious expression.

Bocheng and Yuze took their positions in the center.

The court also became silent. As much as everyone was excited, the nerves couldn't be denied.

The buzzer sounded, and the referee threw the ball high into the air.

Bocheng had never beaten Yuze before.

However, at that moment, he used all of his willpower to jump to the best of his ability.

Before he knew it, he had reached the ball faster than Yuze.

Yuze bit his lip as he tried to steal the ball.

However, it was too late; Bocheng pushed the ball to their side with the strength of his fingers.

It wasn't too strong because of this, but Chunlei, with his keen observance, was able to catch his mistake.

"Crap," Yuze muttered as he landed hard on the ground.

"Defense!" he exclaimed as soon as he landed.

The Shizi Dogs acted quickly, and they went to guard their respective players.

Yiming smirked as Kai guarded him.

He stepped to the right, and Kai quickly followed, making him narrow his eyes.

He then stepped to the other side, but Kai was there once again.

Yiming clicked his tongue.

"His defense is tighter than ever," he whispered.

Kai focused on stopping him.

However, Jinping's shout snapped him out of his focus.

"Kun, watch out!" Jinping exclaimed.

Kun didn't even have any time to react. Being a Point Guard like Chunlei, Kun naturally guarded him.

However, Kun could barely see how Chunlei moved.

"What is he doing?" the others asked as Kun just stood there.

Kun, on the other hand, just couldn't help it.

Chunlei moved too fast—almost otherworldly.

Within a few seconds, Chunlei had already bypassed everyone on the court.

He jumped high in the air and tossed the ball inside the ring in a relaxed manner.

The crowd exclaimed in amazement as Chunlei landed on the ground.

It was a play they could barely see—one that only involved Chunlei.

"The first point of the night goes to the Feng Foxes!" Mark exclaimed.

2-0.

Chunlei smirked as he received high-fives from his teammates.

Meanwhile, the Shizi Dogs felt chills run down their spines.

Kai frowned deeply.

"He's not holding back."
