Apocalypse Survival: Starting with a Shelter

Chapter 114: Chapter 114: The Girl by the Bonfire

"I see. In that case, we could expand this service further," Su Wu remarked. "If the payment is good enough, even the engineering robots could offer on-site repair services."

With the profitability of repairs evident, Su Wu saw no reason to ignore the opportunity. The high returns even made him consider broadening the scope of his operations. For him, resources were always in demand; the more he could collect, the better.

The next two days were calm and uneventful. Aside from the high surface temperatures and persistent radiation, the world seemed almost peaceful, reminiscent of the days before the apocalypse.

During this time, the extreme drilling machine restored the underground steam conduits, bringing normal power back to the farmhouse ruins' main base. The last damaged area of the shelter, the chemical laboratory on the fourth floor, was fully repaired, regaining its ability to produce radiation-proof coatings.

In the third-floor farm, over a thousand chicks and ducklings successfully hatched, filling the breeding area with lively noise. Their presence promised a steady supply of fresh meat, which would soon grace both dining tables and trade inventories.

At the small limestone quarry, the framework of the mining operation took shape. The mining cluster dug a large open-pit mine and, at its base, hollowed out a simple factory space to house the cement production equipment. While this setup might seem excessive, the equipment's operational needs dictated otherwise. Cement production machinery required a controlled environment with proper cooling, which was only achievable underground.

However, this arrangement extended the construction timeline. While mined stones piled up, cement production had yet to begin. Finally, the equipment was ready for a test run. The first batch of cement would be used on-site to build a small bunker, laying the groundwork for the geothermal generators to be installed later.

For now, the coal and electricity needed for cement production were supplied by the Lime Shelter. Transport clusters, including rotating electric power transport vehicles, regularly traversed the newly carved mountain roads, delivering resources to the burgeoning quarry.

In addition to transporting coal, the small transport cluster, consisting of a single Mineral Type-1 Transport Vehicle and two others, began moving the 300 tons of steel stored in a mountain cave back to the farmhouse base in batches.

The frequent transport activity brought life to the mountain roads. Nearby mountain shelters began reaching out to the transport teams, leading to new business opportunities for Su Wu.

At the farmhouse ruins, the second-floor manufacturing center had almost completed its production queue. Two geothermal generators were already finished and earmarked for the watchtower base, which was more concealed and secure. Once installed, the generators would provide a steady, reliable power supply. Two more generators were still under production.

The remaining items in the queue were eight transport vehicles for the transport cluster. Su Wu's initial plan envisioned a fully assembled transport cluster with one Mineral Type-1 Transport Vehicle and ten replica transport vehicles, capable of transporting 550 tons of materials in a single trip—a staggering capacity.

That evening, on the fifth floor near the sheep pen, Su Wu directed a few construction robots to arrange a safe area surrounded by stones and set up a bonfire using wooden logs. He dimmed the nearby lights and projected a simulated starry sky onto the 12-meter-high ceiling using a projector.

Coupled with the air conditioning system adjusted to mimic a cool evening breeze, the area transformed into a picturesque summer night picnic scene.

Holding a bottle of cola, Su Wu sat by the bonfire, watching Chen Xin tend to a barbecue grill. She wore a bear-patterned apron, her focus entirely on flipping skewers over the charcoal fire.

The warm glow of the fire softened her usual clarity, adding a gentle warmth reminiscent of a homemaker.

"Here, try this," Chen Xin said, handing Su Wu a plate of skewers brushed with special sauce. As she turned to leave, Su Wu gently grabbed her wrist.

"Stay for a while. Keep me company."

"Alright," Chen Xin nodded obediently and sat beside him, gazing at the projected starry sky.

The faint scent of her freshly bathed skin lingered in the air, filling Su Wu with a profound sense of calm. While the stars above were artificial, the companion at his side was real.

"Master~ want to watch me dance?" A cheerful voice broke the serene atmosphere.

Su Wu turned to see Chen Yue, dressed in a pure white gown, gracefully stepping onto the lawn. Noticing his gaze, she waved energetically, her lively smile radiating cheerfulness.

Her long hair, falling to her waist, swayed gently with the hem of her dress in the artificial breeze.

"Sure," Su Wu replied, momentarily stunned.

That night, as a soft, melodic song filled the air, Chen Yue danced gracefully under the flickering bonfire light. Her agile movements, bathed in the warm glow, were captured forever in photos taken by the construction robots.

[Daily Task Completed: Bonfire Dinner. Reward: 3 Survival Points.]

After several days, a new white-grade daily task appeared and was successfully completed. Su Wu's survival points, depleted by the four geothermal generators, once again surpassed 20 points.
