American Tax Officer

Chapter 264: Getting the USB Drive, The Self-Righteous Bigwigs

"Calm down, Selina, you didn't like him either. Now that he has rejected you, it's actually a good thing. You don't have to compromise yourself for the sake of our family,"

Hearing her father's consoling words, Selina's heart didn't ease; instead, she felt an even deeper pain as if her heart were being sliced by knives.

Even though David had made a name for himself in America, at the end of the day he was still someone from the very bottom.

And what was Selina's background?

She was from the Kennedy Family, one of America's four greatest families, possessing so-called high society's noble lineage.

Yet, she had prepared herself to marry below her class.

What gave David the right to reject her?

What right did he have to trample on her dignity like this?

The more Selina thought about it, the more indignant she became. Tears streamed down her face, and not even Sean's comforting could stop them.

Of course, David was completely unaware of everything happening on the father and daughter's side. By this time, he had returned to his apartment.

After inquiring with the Inspector and ensuring that Maggie hadn't done anything unusual in the past couple of days, he took out his keys and opened the door.

The next second, he saw a figure dancing elegantly—it was none other than Maggie.

"Oh, Director David is back,"

"Seems you still have the mood for ballet,"

David took off his suit and hung it on the coat rack, then removed his leather shoes and slipped on slippers.

"I had no choice since you won't let me use the phone or computer. This is the only way to pass the time,"

David neither agreed nor disagreed.

"Alright, go make dinner."

Wiping the sweat from her neck, Maggie walked into the kitchen, tied on an apron with practiced ease, and began bustling about with cooking.

An hour later, four simple dishes were ready.

They were braised pork ribs, stir-fried tomatoes and eggs, shredded potatoes, along with a bowl of borscht.

Borscht is an Eastern European dish. David had tried it before but never acquired a taste for it, finding it somewhat similar to swill.

However, Maggie's version was different from what he had tried before, with a sweet and sour taste accompanied by a fresh aroma, which made it acceptable to him.

While eating, Maggie seemed to remember something and proposed, "Oh right, Director David, can I have a drink with you?"

David didn't speak but nodded his head in silent consent.

Maggie smiled and immediately went to the liquor cabinet, took out a bottle of red wine and two goblets, returned to the dining table, poured two glasses, and then raised hers, "Cheers."

The clink of the glasses echoed in the living room, and in the time that followed, it sounded countless more times.

Initially, they had only agreed to have one glass. Perhaps the dishes were too enticing, and unconsciously, the two of them finished off the bottle.

In the end, when David got up, he felt his body somewhat unstable.

It was his own fault for keeping that high-proof Cabernet from California at home, a red wine notorious for its high alcohol content.

Staggering slightly, he returned to his room.

After an indeterminate time, David suddenly smelled a fragrant scent and felt a softness press against him.

Upon closer inspection, it was Maggie who had somehow slipped into his bed, and worse yet, she was wearing that extremely seductive lace nightgown, which instantly got David's head spinning.

But the last shred of reason held him back, and he chided, "Don't play with fire."

"It's fine, Director David. No one will know. Consider it repaying you for saving my life,"

"We already agreed...umm..."

Before David could finish, his mouth was silenced, and that became the final straw that broke down his mental defenses...

In the morning, David was woken up by the phone ringing. It was a call from the CIA, mainly rushing him to hand over the second spy. Continue your adventure at My Virtual Library Empire

After responding briefly, he looked at Maggie, who was beside him with big watery eyes, and he felt a headache coming on.

Drinking really can lead to trouble!

How did he fall for this enchantress's tricks?

It seems that a certain big brother's words were indeed based on a reason, "I just made a mistake that every man in the world would make"!

Although he was somewhat regretful now, recalling the scenes from last night, he had to admit, deep down, he somewhat enjoyed it.

Those ballet dancers certainly have a range of moves; there's nothing you'd imagine they couldn't do!

"Get up."

David moved her arm off his waist and stood up, but perhaps due to some overly challenging maneuvers, he felt a soreness around his waist and couldn't help but support himself against the wall.

"Pfft..."

Maggie let out a laugh, got up to prepare the toothpaste and filled the rinsing cup with water at the basin.

After adjusting a bit, David recovered somewhat. After brushing his teeth and washing his face, he put on his suit and tie, ready to face a new day of work.

Maggie brought over his leather shoes, considerately helping him put them on and tie them up. Then she stood up, opened her arms in a display of merit, and pursed her red lips toward him.

"Alright, it's getting late. I have to go to work now."

Faced with her approaching red lips, David found an excuse to dodge. After all, even tigers do not eat their offspring...

...

Time flew by, and before he knew it, over ten days had passed.

In this time, David had traveled to many cities for the CIA and rooted out four spies. He now only needed to capture two more to meet the conditions agreed upon with the CIA.
