Chapter 39: Heroes Set Out! Venom Appears!
"But… what about the other two sides?"
Gwen looked uneasy. "The casualties are increasing."
"Don't worry, Gwen."
Ye Li put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Heroes, it's not just the two of you."
As he spoke, he looked in a certain direction.
It was the direction of Stark Tower.
"Yeah, Gwen, don't worry about it. We can't handle everything," Jessica said.
Jessica was more optimistic. "Just do what we can. Let's hurry; the faster we go, the more people we can save."
"Okay, I'll listen to Li," Gwen agreed.
Though Gwen was kind-hearted, she trusted Ye Li more.
The two girls made their decision and were ready to head out.
Before they left, Ye Li spread his hands and asked, "So, what am I doing here?"
"Brother, you're in charge of central command!"
Jessica left him with those words, bent her knees, jumped high, and landed on another rooftop.
"Bye~"
Gwen playfully made a salute gesture by her hood, bidding Ye Li farewell.
She then shot webs from her wrist and followed.
Watching the two heroines disappear into the distance,
Ye Li said, "I'm going to the bathroom."
"Skye, you're in charge of the club command. If there's anything you don't understand, ask Barbara for advice."
Skye: "..."
....
High above, atop a tall building.
....
On a skyscraper dozens of stories high.
Two large green lizards were climbing upward with astonishing agility.
One of them carried a metal box on its back, contents unknown.
Their sharp claws easily hooked into the crevices between floors, and the ninety-degree vertical angle posed no obstacle to them.
Down below, police lights flashed as squad cars arrived.
But the light weapons carried by the police were useless against the lizard men, who climbed toward the rooftop unhindered.
A police officer, gripping a handgun tightly, leaned against a squad car and complained, "Our pistols can't even pierce their skin. This is beyond what we can handle."
"Stop complaining. At least no one's gotten hurt here yet," another officer, hiding behind the squad car, said timidly.
"The other two areas have already seen civilian casualties."
"What do you think these two creatures are trying to do, climbing to the roof?"
"Who knows."
The officer holding the handgun speculated, "Maybe they're going up to mate and spawn more little lizards?"
For some reason, he imagined the two lizards were a pair.
"Oh—"
The officer behind the car groaned, "That would be even worse. I don't want to see a whole bunch of lizard people..."
To be fair, the officer's guess was half right.
Connors indeed planned to create more lizard people.
Uh, of course, not by mating with Peter... they didn't even have that capability.
Connors had developed a device to release the lizard serum in mist form, turning more people into lizard creatures!
Now on the rooftop, he was busy setting it up.
But behind him, Peter's gaze grew sharp.
As his eyes narrowed to slits,
Peter suddenly lunged toward Connors!
Caught off guard by the sudden attack, Connors was stunned.
Reacting too late, he paid the price.
Unable to react in time, Connors was pushed to the edge of the rooftop by Peter's powered-up strike.
"No! Peter!! What are you trying to do?"
Connors dug his sharp claws into the ground, creating sparks as he barely stopped himself, entering a stalemate with Peter.
"Sorry... Dr. Connors."
Peter gritted his teeth and applied more force. "I won't allow anyone else to gain this power, especially Thompson!"
Their philosophies had always clashed, so a confrontation was inevitable.
"You... Peter, I never thought you'd have such a narrow-minded view!"
Connors snarled in anger. "It seems you're no different from the others, all trying to stop me from achieving humanity's great evolution!"
Meanwhile...
Buzz buzz buzz—
At that moment, a police drone approached the rooftop, capturing the scene.
"Chief George said reinforcements were on the way, and this is it?"
"A single drone?"
"With chaos all over New York, it's no surprise they're stretched thin."
"Be grateful—it's at least armed."
Officer A, watching the feed: "Are they... mating?"
Officer B: "...No, they're fighting, I think."
Officer A: "Are you sure? You know, they're kind of similar."
"..."
Officer B suggested, "Looks like they're fighting each other. This might be a good chance—let the drone open fire."
"Wait, something else just showed up!"
...
Peter was trying to push Connors off the edge.
But Connors, driven by anger, unleashed his strength. His muscles tensed, and he even began to push Peter back.
At that moment, a pitch-black figure leaped from another building, lunging toward Peter—
"Peter Parker!! So, it is you! Prepare to die!"
As Thompson jumped, a black liquid spread over his face, revealing a menacing visage.
"Hiss Who are you?"
Peter stuck out his long tongue in confusion and turned to see an even stranger figure charging at him.
Sharp fangs, long narrow white eyes, a grotesque muscular body, and a slimy black surface.
It was utterly disgusting.
"I am Venom..."
Thompson's voice was now deep and raspy, filled with an unsettling tone. "Peter Parker... today is your death."
