Chapter 523: 523. Justice Society's Mission.
Hearing Tim mention the explosion at the ruins in Egypt, Alex's expression, which had been watching the scene play out, suddenly changed. He quickly walked up to the computer and carefully examined the information on the screen.
[An explosion occurred at the ruins on the border of Egypt and Kahndaq, resulting in an extraordinary energy reaction. Initial speculation suggests either alien or magical forces. Members of the Society nearby are requested to investigate further.]
Below this message were responses from Doctor Fate and Hawkman.
Both of them were near Egypt—one excavating ancient pyramid ruins, the other searching for his reincarnated wife, Hawkwoman. Upon receiving this message, they immediately responded.
"Kahndaq, huh…" Alex narrowed his eyes slightly.
This country, like Gotham and Metropolis, only existed within the DC Universe. Much like Marvel's Wakanda, Kahndaq was a secluded, small nation.
The difference, however, was that while Wakanda's technology was incredibly advanced, Kahndaq was relatively underdeveloped, with its people living in poverty.
That said, the country should not be underestimated. While Kahndaq might not have been notable among Earth's nations in the past, when a great force from this land arrived, no one dared to look down on it anymore.
When the words "ruins explosion" and "Kahndaq" were mentioned together, Alex immediately guessed what was about to happen next.
The ruler of Kahndaq had finally broken free from his seal.
Black Adam was back!
"I heard there's an organization called the Intergang that's been active in Kahndaq recently. During the Kryptonian War, some alien technology was taken by this group, and Mr. Wayne kept an eye on them."
Seeing Alex's focused gaze on the screen, Tim explained some of the details.
"After the Justice Society was formed, the Intergang became one of the Society's primary enemies. People like Hourman, Doctor Mid-Nite, Wildcat, and The Flash often clashed with them. Eventually, everyone worked together to wipe out the organization, but it seems they've revived."
"Unfortunately, the Justice Society's headquarters are over here, so we can't send everyone. Also, sending so many enhanced individuals to another country might cause international disputes. I believe Doctor Fate and Hawkman can handle this."
"Not necessarily." Alex pursed his lips.
He never expected that the Flashpoint Universe would end up taking inspiration from the Black Adam movie. While it was certain that, in a world without Superman, there would be no face-off between Superman and Black Adam as seen in the movie, Alex could already predict that if the plot were to unfold like the film, Doctor Fate might lose his life in this mission.
It was hard to imagine that after just two years since the awakening of the original Doctor Fate, they would need a new one so soon.
After thinking for a moment, Alex pulled out a smartphone from his pocket.
"Can you connect my phone to the Bat Network? I need you to install real-time communication and send me the destination of this mission along with a map of Kahndaq."
"What are you planning to do? You're not thinking of just joining in on the action, are you?" Tim looked at Alex with wide eyes.
"What's wrong with that?" Alex turned his head.
"It's not that you can't, but what about your identity? The fact that you're from another universe should be kept secret. I don't even know who you are, and neither Doctor Fate nor Hawkman does." Tim said.
"That's easy. Just tell them I'm with the Batfamily. Our fashion style is similar anyway. You can just hand me an eye mask and a few Batarangs." Alex didn't seem too concerned about this.
"But…" Tim frowned.
He wasn't trying to stop Alex, but it was just his personality. Rushing into other people's battles often resulted in hostility, and it wasn't his style.
"Trust me, it'll be fine. I just have a feeling that they might run into some danger on this mission. I'll just go check it out. If everything's fine, I won't interfere." Alex spoke calmly.
Hearing this, Tim nodded in agreement.
"Alright, but I should warn you. While Doctor Fate seems kind and gentle, he's quite stubborn, not nearly as easy to talk to as Mr. Wayne. Hawkman is even more headstrong. Don't get into any arguments with them."
"Don't worry, I've got it covered."
Alex smiled in response, though Tim didn't notice the smile had turned into a cold grin.
Connecting the Batwatch on his wrist to Alex's phone, Tim quickly started typing on the keyboard. Soon, several hidden programs were transmitted to Alex's phone.
Although the Batcave was hidden underground, thanks to Bruce Wayne's immense wealth, the internet speed here was unaffected, even faster than outside.
Within a few minutes, Alex's phone rebooted, and when the screen lit up again, a Bat symbol appeared on the phone.
"I've reinstalled the system for you. Now you're using my Robin sub-program. While you won't be able to access some of the Society's classified information, basic data is available for you to view."
After finishing all of this, Tim picked up a phone and a glasses case and handed them to Alex.
"This is an old eye mask. Mr. Wayne modified the suit a while back and installed some smart devices on it, but this mask hasn't been updated yet. You'll have to make do with this one."
"Thanks." Alex took the phone and the glasses case and thanked Tim, not particularly concerned about whether the eye mask contained any smart devices.
"The Batarangs are in the weapons locker. Feel free to take them, but how do you plan on getting to Kahndaq? If you book a plane ticket now, you won't make it in time for what's going on there."
Tim paused, suddenly realizing something, and waved his hands repeatedly.
"Don't ask me to fly you there in the Batjet. I still have homework to do, and Mr. Wayne hasn't taught me how to fly a plane yet. Besides, the Batjet isn't available to you unless you call Mr. Wayne right now."
"No need for that much trouble. It's just a trip abroad, I have my own ways." Alex patted Tim on the shoulder and smiled mysteriously.
Without waiting for Tim's confused look, Alex turned and walked toward the weapons locker, leaving Tim standing there unsure of what to do.
Tim watched Alex disappear around the corner of the Batcave before he finally looked away.
Although he was puzzled why Alex was suddenly so interested in the Society's mission, it wasn't really his concern. Besides, Alex was an old friend of Mr. Wayne, which made him one of their own.
If Batman trusted him, then he was definitely someone worth trusting. Alex wouldn't do anything bad for the Justice Society.
With that in mind, Tim returned his focus to the homework on the desk.
The tip of the pen paused on the paper for a moment.
After a heavy sigh, Tim took out his own communication device and dialed Bruce Wayne's number.
It didn't take long for the call to connect, and Bruce Wayne's voice came through.
"In a meeting. What's up?"
Hearing Mr. Wayne's voice, Tim carefully chose his words before speaking.
"Uh, well, the Society just got a mission alert about the Intergang and the Kahndaq ruins. It seems Alex is really interested in this and plans to go take a look."
"Did he request it?" Old Bruce Wayne asked.
"Yes, but…"
Before Tim could finish his sentence, Bruce Wayne interrupted him.
"If he's the one requesting it, then don't worry about it. Let him do what he wants."
"But what about the Society? Doctor Fate and Hawkman already accepted the mission. They're not exactly easy to deal with." Tim couldn't help but say.
"It's fine. You don't need to worry about it."
Bruce Wayne chuckled and then continued.
"By the way, did he say how he plans to get there?"
"No, he said he has his own ways, but he asked me to connect him to the Bat Network using my identity." Tim spoke truthfully.
"Mm."
After hearing this, Bruce Wayne fell silent for a moment, seemingly lost in thought. After a while, he broke the silence.
"Got it. Just take care of yourself. Don't worry about anything else. I've got a meeting to attend, but I'll deal with it when I get back in a couple of days."
"Okay."
Tim didn't think too much of it and responded calmly.
After hanging up, he focused back on his homework. The school year was starting soon, and with all the time spent fighting the Court, he hadn't written a single word yet.
However, what he didn't know was that while he was writing, the Batwatch on his wrist had quietly been hacked.
On the other side of the city, at the top of Wayne Tower in Gotham.
Old Bruce Wayne, wearing a suit for the first time in a while, sat at the far end of the conference room, the main seat. On either side of him were other board members of Wayne Enterprises.
The conference room was exceptionally quiet, with everyone quietly looking down at their materials and documents. Only Bruce Wayne was calmly staring at his phone.
Earlier, a call had interrupted their meeting.
If it had been anyone else's phone, the owner would have been the center of attention. But if the call was from the highest authority in the room, it was a different story.
The others quietly averted their gaze, waiting for Bruce Wayne to answer the phone.
Looking at the newly installed sub-program on his phone, a hint of satisfaction appeared in Bruce Wayne's eyes.
After a pause, he put down the phone and shifted his gaze to the people around him.
"Alright, let's continue the meeting. Let's discuss the recycling project."
