Chapter 14: chapter 14- Work and Him
ZARAH~
The next day I found myself back at my desk working as if nothing had happened, I was thankful that there weren't any awkward moments with Micheal, everything remained the way they were meant to be, normal. I looked through some files Micheal needed on my desk and began to arrange them by level of importance, it was tedious work but I didn't mind it.
"Dina here are the names of the firms that need Micheal to come in," A female intern said, placing another file on my already clustered, I let out a groan exhausted from all the work I had been doing, just a week and so much work had piled up. I closed my eyes and tried to escape for a moment of peace when I heard his familiar voice.
"Tired already" He asked his voice a soft chuckle as he pspoke, I opened my eyes and looked at him, a small smile curling my lips.
"Why are you here" I asked playfully exhaustion filling the sound of my voice "I've seen your schedule you don't have time for this" I scolded, his smile widened.
"Yeah I don't but you're looking exhausted and that'll affect your productivity" He answered.
"Productivity," I asked snidely.
"Yep" " he stood up and walked to me "Here's what I'm gonna do, you are going to come with me to one of my meetings," he said.
"Do I have a choice?" I asked jokingly.
"You do, But" He paused and gestured to my desk that was riddled with files upon files "It's not that good", I chuckled.
"Work is just gonna increase if I leave" I reminded him.
"Nope," He replied "Carl!" He called out the name of one intern and immediately a pale guy with freckles on his face came running towards us.
"Yes Mr Micheal," Carl said.
"I told you, just Michael would be fine" He corrected before he turned to me who watched him with an amused look in my eyes "Take over Dina's desk till we get back, do as much as you can and I'll see what I can do about extending your breaks."
"Really," Carl said his eyes bright with joy "I'll get right on it," he said as he walked closer to my desk, Micheal gently gave him a pat on the back and gestured for me to follow him, I smiled as I no longer had an excuse as to why I couldn't go and, to be honest I was a little relieved he considered bringing me along. I put on my coat and followed him to his car which was parked beneath the building in the parking lot reserved for executives, The grey Lexus was beautiful and strong, it reminded me of him. He walked in front of me and helped me with the door allowing me to enter with ease and be swept away by his small act of chivalry, he then jogged to the other side of the car and entered into it.
"Comfy" he asked with a smile on his face, I nodded gently so he immediately turned the key, all the lights on the dashboard came alive as the engine growled, I saw the pleased smile on his face and I couldn't help but chuckle.
"What?" He asked wondering if he did something funny but I shook my head and just sat there with a cheeky smile on my face.
"Alright then, here we go," he said as he reversed out of the cornered spot and left the underground parking lot.
After what felt like 10 minutes on the road we finally pulled up in front of a tall commercial building.
"Here we are," He said as he opened his door and stepped out and I opened mine stepping out and letting the warm city breeze blow against my air-conditioned skin, I smiled as I looked around, I hadn't really been to this part of the city because I had never found a need to.
"Is this it?" I asked an obvious question.
"Yeah," he said as he fixed the buttons on his navy blue suit and began to walk towards the doors of the building, I followed behind him as he walked straight for the elevator and entered it, it was empty allowing us another moment of comfort in each other's presence.
"Nervous?" I asked as I turned to him, he turned to me and instead of replying he just smiled. The ding of the elevator sounded and the doors began to open, a woman in her forties stood at the other side waiting for us.
"Hey misses Griffin" he greeted as he walked toward her and gave her a warm hug. "Is he ready for me?" he asked.
"Yes, he is" she answered before she turned her eyes to me "Who is she?"
"Oh, this is Dina Meyers and she'll be joining me today" he responded.
"Ok you remember the office right" she asked as she tapped the elevator button, he nodded in response, she smiled and on queue, the doors of the elevator opened "Good I have a few errands to run so see yourselves to the office," she said and stepped into the elevator. He turned and began walking to the office.
"She's friendly, you seem to know her quite well, which means this person we are going to meet is already a client, so why are we meeting up for a pitch" I asked slightly confused, still working he answered.
"The man we are going to meet is Dennis Manchester and he plans to take his business to another firm, I'm here to change that" He answered as we got to the door of the office.
"Oh"
"You ready?"
"Yeah" I replied, a little nervous even though I wasn't the one doing the pitch, he held the handle and pushed open the door, the cold air of the office escaped as the door was opened and we walked into the office, Dennis Manchester sat behind his desk writing in a note when we walked in, he didn't look up or acknowledge our presence till he was done.
"Mike" he greeted as he put down his pen and looked up at us, Micheal smiled.
"Been a while Dennis" Micheal said as he walked forward and took a seat leaving me standing behind him.
"Too long," Dennis said with a faint chuckle "Want a drink?" Micheal shook his head kindly rejecting the offer causing Dennis to turn to me.
"What about you beautiful" he asked, immediately after he said those words Michaels's back became tense and only released when I also turned down Dennis's offer.
"Ohk you nuns" Dennis teased as he poured himself a drink and took a small sip "what's up"
"You're leaving us" Micheal answered boldly.
"It's nothing personal Micheal" Dennis said, sitting up and meeting Michaels eye level.
"Business is always personal, at least I think it should be" Micheal argued.
"Really??"
"Of course, if you aren't personal with someone you give your business how can you trust them?" Micheal asked.
"They have a lower price."
"A lower price will always get you lower quality, that's a law of business," Micheal said coyly.
"Not with them."
"I would show you what they can offer you but I'm not that kind of man so instead I'll state the following facts, over the last four years which you have been partnered with us your sales have increased by 48 percent, you have much better outreach and you haven't had a single problem, I'm not here to say they are bad I'm here to remind you that although we might be more expensive we do bring better results and that would always be a fact, and that was just in four years imagine what we will be able to achieve in another four years," Micheal said, all through his speech he had not let Dennis get in a single word, Dennis relaxed into his chair and a small smile curved his lips.
"Ok Micheal I'll talk it over with the board of directors and give you a call," He said, Micheal immediately stood to his feet and smiled.
"Good to here that Dennis, maybe after that we'll go get a drink," Micheal said with a smirk as he extended his palm for a handshake.
"Sure" Dennis said as he shook Michael's hands, I was blown away, every word that left Michael's mouth was perfect, the second he took that seat he had turned into someone else and I stared at that person with admiration as we walked out of the office.
