Chapter 214: Tonight!
"Mr. Lu, I can't accept this..."
Wang Chuting was stunned, unable to refuse in time before feeling the unique cold touch of metal against her neck.
"Miss Wang, don't move for now, be careful not to pull your hair. Let me put it on for you."
Lu Liang wore a slight smile as he gently lifted her hair, careful not to touch the skin of her neck, and fastened the clasp of the necklace.
He took a half-step back, inspecting her carefully, a look of admiration appearing on his face: "It seems it didn't deceive me. There truly is a destiny that shapes our ends. Precious swords for heroes, beautiful jewels for lovely ladies."
Her snow-white, flawless neck was adorned with a necklace of sapphires and platinum that complemented each other perfectly.
Some people wear necklaces and make the necklace shine bright, while others wear necklaces and make themselves shine even brighter.
Wang Chuting undoubtedly belonged to the latter. Even if nothing happened tonight, this necklace was still worth its price.
Wang Chuting quickly said, "Mr. Lu, I appreciate your kindness, and I thank you, but I really can't accept it."
Lu Liang was too straightforward, which had already caught her off guard, but she didn't want their relationship to progress so quickly.
"Miss Wang, just keep it. It's already bought, and it's no use to me if you don't want it."
Lu Liang's lips carried a smile, not stopping Wang Chuting from taking off the necklace but instead returning to his seat across from her.
He picked up his wineglass and swirled the red wine inside: "If you take it off now, there probably won't be another chance to wear it."
These words conveyed two messages. First, he did not have a girlfriend, at least not in front of Wang Chuting. Second, it was literal: opportunities swiftly pass by, and once missed, they're gone forever and won't come again.
It's like fishing; you can bait the fish, but the bait must pay off. You can't just feed them without getting a bite.
Otherwise, he wouldn't be the one fishing; instead, the fish would be catching him.
Lu Liang wasn't patient. If he didn't succeed at once, he would give up on this fishing spot, and he would not return in the future.
Wang Chuting fell silent, catching the subtext, and ceased her movements, turning to look at the slightly reflective glass.
She turned back with a smile, full of charm, her pale blue eyes expressing delight: "It's really beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Lu."
Although there had been a slip in her plans, she hadn't anticipated that Lu Liang would be so forthright. However, she didn't want to let this opportunity slip away, especially since she was already 26 years old.
A girl's prime is short.
Wang Chuting wasn't sure if she would have another chance to meet someone as fitting as Lu Liang.
Wealthy and powerful, and most importantly, she found him easy on the eyes.
"As long as you like it," Lu Liang responded with a casual smile, as if nothing had happened.
He gestured, summoning a waiter who had been waiting at a distance: "Miss Wang, feel free to tell him any dietary restrictions you have."
In a high-end restaurant, you dine on more than just the food and atmosphere, you enjoy the service. To avoid overhearing their conversation, the waiters stood far away, but they would immediately come over at a beckon.
Wang Chuting gave a light smile: "I have quite the appetite; I've yet to come across something I can't eat."
"Girls still need to eat more. Many colleagues in our company eat only once a day, and it's easy to get a stomach illness."
Lu Liang smiled and had the waiter pour Wang Chuting a drink: "Then let the kitchen prepare. I don't have any dietary restrictions either."
Wang Chuting spoke with feigned distress: "Eating is joyous, but looking at the weight scale afterward doesn't make me happy."
"Eat more, move more, it will digest eventually" Lu Liang raised his glass, gazing out the window: "The night view of Modu is truly beautiful."
From the 91st floor, without any obstructions in front, the Pujiang River could nearly be seen in its entirety, along with the bustling Bund on the opposite shore.
"It is beautiful, but this beauty ultimately belongs to the few," Wang Chuting remarked, following his gaze, feeling reflective.
Back in the day, when Bai Juyi first arrived in Chang'an, he did so as a scholar-official, akin to a county-level official of today; even he lamented the immensity of Chang'an, finding it hard to settle in.
Let alone people from ordinary families like them. She had lived in this city for five years; no matter how splendid and bright the daytime was, each night she had to endure a subway ride of over an hour to the suburbs because the rent there was cheaper.
Though her salary wasn't low, over thirty thousand a month, she needed to save money to polish her appearance and to select a satisfactory groom.
"This view is indeed one that belongs to the few. Once, I took seven years to measure every inch of this city on foot."
Lu Liang took a sip of red wine and sincerely exclaimed, "But later I realized that the right choice often matters more than the right effort."
He was just expressing his feelings on the spur of the moment, reminiscing about the days when he was running solo. But when Wang Chuting heard this, she took it as a hint, and after a long silence, she said, "The right choice does indeed matter more than effort."
Lu Liang laughed wryly but didn't explain, because he knew that this mixed-race girl in front of him had already made the right choice.
As half a bottle of red wine was finished, more dishes appeared on the table, and the two of them also became more conversational.
Wang Chuting was quick-witted and very intelligent, always able to find common topics with Lu Liang. Usually, he would lead the conversation, but tonight, he was outshone.
It was undeniable that talking with her was very comfortable, allowing Lu Liang to realize that both her IQ and EQ were quite high.
But then again, it should be so since Forbes, as one of the world's top business magazines, interviews the titans of commerce.
They absolutely would not allow a journalist to ask something as offensive and showing such low emotional intelligence as, "Really? I don't believe it."
Such remarks are less like conducting an interview and more like an interrogation, immediately trapping the interviewee into a situation where they must defend themselves.
Those who say such things are either stupid or malicious.
As the night deepened and two bottles of red wine were opened, Wang Chuting's fair skin also started to blush.
"Mr. Lu, I'm going to the restroom."
She was about to stand up, and seeing that her balance was shifting, Lu Liang quickly stepped forward to support her, "Miss Wang, let me help you there."
"Thank you, Mr. Lu," Wang Chuting said, her eyes blurry with intoxication, charming and seductive, standing in her high heels almost as tall as Lu Liang.
Lu Liang supported her out of the restaurant and into the elevator. Technically, the restroom wasn't in this direction, and a glint of sobriety flashed through Wang Chuting's eyes, but she chose to remain silent.
The elevator went straight to the 100th floor. The International Financial Center had a total of 101 floors, but the top floor was a helicopter pad, making the 100th floor somewhat unsuitable for living.
Lu Liang had asked Wen Chao to book a room here in the afternoon. Right after he swiped the card to enter, he embraced Wang Chuting's slender waist.
The two were almost the same height, which allowed him for the first time to kiss without having to lower his head, and their bodies fitting together in every part was just perfect.
Wang Chuting, with eyes closed, seemed to realize what was about to happen, suddenly lifted her leg, and used the heel of her high shoe to close the door.
From then on, there were just the two of them in the space.
As Lu Liang grew unsatisfied with only kisses through clothing, a hint of panic appeared in Wang Chuting's eyes, and she almost voiced out from her throat, "Mr. Lu, maybe I should take a shower first."
She knew that this moment would come sooner or later, but she didn't expect it to come faster than she anticipated, as if on 64x speed, tonight.
Lu Liang pursed his lips, still tasting the scent of lipstick, smiled, and said softly, "Go ahead."
His kissing lacked finesse, strikingly different from the witty Wang Chuting he knew just moments before, and he became more forgiving.
Wang Chuting, with flushed cheeks, hurried into the bathroom, and just as she breathed a sigh of relief,
Suddenly a crisp sound came, like a switch being flipped, and the obscured walls of the bathroom suddenly became clear.
She saw Lu Liang sitting on the sofa, taking out another bottle of beer from the fridge, and waving at her.
Lu Liang had just discovered this feature as well, enjoying a beer while watching a beauty bathe, quite a surprise.
Wang Chuting felt both ashamed and angry, but she was helpless and could only glare fiercely, venting her dissatisfaction.
"Since I'm already here," "the child is still young," "it's the opening of the year," "it's not easy for anyone."
One by one, these phrases popped into her mind as her clothes were being removed piece by piece.
First was the gossamer white dress, leaving her with only one garment.
Because her dress didn't require it, she mostly used pasties.
Wang Chuting covered her chest with one arm, standing in Valentino high heels, with likely longer than 1.2-meter legs.
Lu Liang watched intently at her perfect figure, reminiscent of Venus, lingering on the moment, but still turned off the glass switch.
Too much was as bad as not enough, and too much offense wouldn't be good, especially since Wang Chuting was resistant.
Suddenly the glass fogged over again, and Wang Chuting was surprised to hear Lu Liang's voice from outside, "Miss Wang, I'm going to use another bathroom to freshen up."
Upon hearing this, Wang Chuting's eyes gradually softened, and she muttered softly, "Not too bad, he's not that malicious."
