After I Let Go, She Regretted It Deeply

Chapter 7

Chapter 7: I Have No Interest in Blind Dates:

I smiled and nodded, tightly holding Grandpa’s hand.

“Grandpa, don’t worry. I’ve grown up now. I’m not that naive and impulsive kid anymore. I know what to give up and what to cherish. I’ve already divorced Lin Muyao.”

“You really got divorced?” Grandpa, unaware of this news, was visibly surprised.

“Really. This time, I truly figured it out.”

“That’s great! Not to scold you, but that Lin Muyao was never worthy of you. The people I had watching over her reported that she’s been getting quite close to another man over the past two years.”

“That so-called first love of hers? Ridiculous! A married woman with no sense of boundaries—what a disgrace. It’s good that you finally divorced her. Otherwise, your head would be covered in a field of green by now.”

“From now on, don’t even think about going back to that Beijing place. Just stay in North City and live like the young master you are!”

Grandpa’s face was filled with disgust as he mentioned Lin Muyao. It wasn’t surprising—who would like a woman who repeatedly hurt his grandson?

Besides, he must have known about all the underhanded things she and Zhang Wangchuan did. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have shown such deep loathing toward her.

“I understand, Grandpa. You’re right—Lin Muyao was never good enough for me. Let her be with her first love for as long as they want. The best outcome would be that they never appear in front of me again.”

“Now that’s how the heir of the Song family should act! Who do they think they are, daring to trample on my grandson? Listen to me—if they ever try to pester you again, I won’t let them off easy!”

“Haha, don’t worry, Grandpa. They wouldn’t dare cross you.”

Seeing how protective he was made my heart feel warm.

Only home could offer such a sense of security.

Here, everyone cared about me, respected me, and trusted me.

I should have come back sooner—this was the life that truly belonged to me.

During dinner, Grandpa had a great appetite. Maybe it was because he was in a good mood now that I had returned.

Even the housekeeper couldn’t help but sigh. “As expected, with the young master back, the old master’s spirit is much better. He’s even enjoying his food more.”

“Enough teasing me. How could I not be happy when my grandson is finally home?”

“By the way, Shiyue, now that you’re back, it’s the perfect time for you to take over the company and the Song family business. These things will all be yours sooner or later. The sooner you start learning, the sooner I can feel at ease.”

Grandpa set down his chopsticks and looked at me seriously.

But at his words, I hesitated.

I had just returned and wanted to spend time with Grandpa. I didn’t want to get caught up in business affairs right away. Besides, outsiders might think I came back just for the inheritance.

Moreover, I had my own passions. I was currently the leader of a world-class hacker organization, and many matters required my immediate attention. If I took over the Song family now, I wouldn’t be able to juggle everything at once.

“What’s wrong?”

Grandpa noticed my hesitation and asked patiently.

“Grandpa, I don’t want to take over the family business just yet. I just got back, and my priority is to spend time with you. I also want to reconnect with my old friends and get familiar with North City again. After all, I’ve been away for so long. If I suddenly take over everything, I might make mistakes, and then people won’t be convinced of my leadership.”

Grandpa listened to my explanation and nodded thoughtfully.

“You have a point. As long as I’m here, no one would dare stir up trouble within the Song family. Go ahead and do what you like for now. Besides…”

“Now that you’re divorced, it’s time to consider your personal life again. There are plenty of good girls in North City. Finding the right one won’t be difficult. I remember… What was her name? That young lady from the Chen family—she’s a fine match.”

Grandpa furrowed his brows, trying to recall the name.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at his expression.

“Grandpa, I just got divorced. I’m in no mood to meet anyone new.”

“That won’t do! I’m waiting to hold my great-grandchild. Just because one relationship failed doesn’t mean you should give up. There are plenty of good girls out there waiting for you. My grandson is outstanding—he deserves the best!”

“Alright, alright, Grandpa. Don’t worry, I won’t close myself off. But love isn’t something that can be forced—it’s all about fate.”

“Fate, huh? Fate still needs a little push.”

“How about this—while you’re resting at home, I’ll have people pick out some suitable matches for you. You can meet each one and see if any of them interest you.”

“…Blind dates?” My eyes widened in disbelief.

I had absolutely no interest in blind dating.

“What’s wrong with blind dates? Just follow my arrangements.”

Grandpa waved his hand dismissively, already making up his mind.

I looked at him, wanting to argue, but in the end, I could only sigh helplessly.

Forget it. As long as Grandpa was happy, that was all that mattered.

He just wanted the best for me, afraid that I would be heartbroken over Lin Muyao and eager to find me a better match.

Since it was only a few meetings and not a forced marriage, I would just go along with it for now.

“Fine, Grandpa. You decide.”

“That’s more like it! Now that’s my good grandson.”

Grandpa happily took a sip of his wine, clearly satisfied.

In the past few days since my return, my phone had been bombarded with calls from unknown numbers.

I knew it was Lin Muyao, so I didn’t answer a single one.

Whenever I had nothing important to do, I simply turned off my phone.

During this time, I met up with many old friends. They had all missed me, and we spent our days eating, drinking, and enjoying ourselves.

Thinking back to the days when I would rush home after work just to cook for Lin Muyao, it felt like a completely different lifetime.

One night, as I was enjoying a drink, I received a call from Xu Heng.

“Bro, where are you right now?”

“What’s wrong?” I frowned, sensing something off in his tone.

Xu Heng knew I had returned home. Why was he suddenly calling me like this?

It sounded like he was being pressured by someone.

“Uh… I just wanted to ask if you’re free for a drink. Thought I’d see where you were.”

The more I listened, the more suspicious it sounded.

Xu Heng never called me at this hour for drinks.

Someone was definitely making him do this.

And I had a strong feeling that person was standing right next to him.

“Where I am doesn’t matter. But if you want to drink with me, I won’t be free anytime soon—I’ve been busy lately.”

“Ah… You’re busy, huh? Alright, alright, I won’t bother you then…”

Just as Xu Heng was about to hang up, a furious female voice erupted from the other end.

“What do you mean you won’t bother him?! Give me the phone!”

Hearing that voice, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
