After divorcing my celebrity wife, I became the world's richest person

Chapter 499 Fang Zhihe

Chen Yu, carrying Polaris, walked into a jewelry store on his own accord.

As soon as he entered, the shopkeeper greeted him enthusiastically.

"What would the two of you like to purchase?"

Before Chen Yu could even sit down, a middle-aged man hurriedly barged in and slammed a large crystal ball onto the ground with force.

The object, like a lump of iron, created a large dent on the floor.

"This is outrageous, boss, how dare you sell fake goods here? Be careful or I'll tell young master Khaled to shut down your shop."

The shopkeeper immediately put on an innocent face.

"I don't think I've ever seen you before, and we sell gold and silver jewelry here; it's impossible that we would sell such crystal balls! Besides, your crystal ball is nothing more than an iron sphere coated with a layer of fluorescent powder on the outside."

The man instantly became infuriated and pulled out a bill from his body, slapping it onto the table.

"Open your damn eyes and take a good look, isn't this the receipt your store gave me?"

The shopkeeper's face still wore a smile as he calmly picked up the bill and then suddenly tore it to shreds.

"You just said you have a bill from our store, may I ask where is the bill?"

The middle-aged man's eyes widened in disbelief, not expecting the shopkeeper to shamelessly play dumb.

Chen Yu was beginning to find this spectacle unbearable, and as he was about to reason with the shopkeeper, he suddenly received information from the brains of the two men.

It appeared that the shopkeeper was not at fault; the crystal ball had not been sold by him, but was forged by the middle-aged man.

The bill that was presented just now was also fake.

Chen Yu immediately became intrigued and continued to scan the brain information of the middle-aged man.

This man was called Fang Zhihe, an expert forger.

Many years ago, he was deceived by Khaled into coming here and has since been ordered to create fake items for a huge profit.

Khaled also signed a contract with Fang Zhihe, promising him freedom once he forged ten thousand fake items.

However, when Fang Zhihe had fulfilled his contract, Khaled went back on his word and locked Fang Zhihe on the sixth floor, preventing him from leaving.

Having no other choice, Fang Zhihe could only make some fake items and sell them in various shops to scrape together some money.

At first, he made a large sum, but as time passed, the shopkeepers started to realize what was happening and united against him.

Whenever they saw Fang Zhihe come to a store to return an item, they would immediately destroy the bill in his hands.

As the two sides argued incessantly, Chen Yu suddenly rose to his feet and patted Fang Zhihe on the shoulder.

"Mr. Fang, there's no point in causing a scene here. Even if your counterfeiting skills are high, you're bound to leave some flaws! I've looked at that bill just now and it has at least twenty defects."

Fang Zhihe looked at Chen Yu with a strange gaze. Continue reading at My Virtual Library Empire

"Sir, you have a keen eye to spot the flaws on my bill! But you seem unfamiliar, not from around here, are you?"

Chen Yu nodded, "I'm a guest who has been invited here. Moreover, Mr. Khaled just lost a match to me in an arena, and I can make any request to him—perhaps even take Mr. Fang away."

Fang Zhihe instantly became excited; he had been trapped here for many years, always hoping to leave.

"That is truly great, may I know your honored name, sir!"

Chen Yu was about to speak when two fierce-looking fellows suddenly burst into the shop.

"Boss, is the batch of goods we left with you still here? We want to redeem it now."

The shopkeeper let out a helpless sigh and could only go to the back room to pull out a large trunk.

Chen Yu frowned slightly; he had seen these two men before, seemingly in one of the arena fights.

Fighters here had no rights whatsoever, and it was impossible for them to hold much wealth in their hands.

Yet the box was filled with Gold.

The two didn't care about that, grabbing the box and attempting to leave.

But, as they reached the doorway, several of Khaled's guards suddenly appeared.

"You're nothing but fighters here, and yet you think of leaving? You must be tired of living."

The two fellows immediately knelt on the ground.

"Master Khaled promised us that as long as we fought ten thousand matches on the stage, he would let us leave!"

The guards didn't care about that at all; with blades in their hands, they quickly slew the two at the doorstep of the shop.

The shop owner, however, became excited and immediately stepped forward to take more than half of the gold out of the box.

"Gentlemen, according to the rules, seventy percent of the wealth here must be handed over to Young Master Khaled."

The guards didn't concern themselves with that, taking out a leather band and bundling up the gold.

"Boss, you've been cooperative. We'll say a few good words about you in the marketplace. Who knows, in a little while, the two shops next door may both be yours."

After a few more words, the guards turned and left.

Chen Yu's mouth hung open in disbelief; he had not expected that Khaled would collude with the local merchants to exploit the fighters.

Many of those fighting outside had been deceived into coming here, others were simply kidnapped.

Their only thought was to save enough money to leave, not realizing it was all a scam.

From the moment they stepped into the ring, death was waiting for them.

They would die either on the stage or be killed upon leaving.

Chen Yu sighed helplessly. This was something he could not — and had no means to — control.

Only by pulling Khaled down from his position could the people here gain their freedom.

After the owner had collected the gold, he approached Chen Yu with a smile again.

"Sir, do you need me to recommend something? We've gotten quite a few good items recently."

Disgust appeared on Chen Yu's face.

"No need, I'm not interested in anything here."

With that said, he prepared to leave.

Unexpectedly, just as he reached the entrance, the two guards from before returned.

"You're Chen Yu, right?"

Chen Yu was taken aback and looked at the two men with an inquiring gaze.

"Yes, I am. What do you want to do?"

The two men suddenly became excited, drawing their large swords in an abrupt motion to chop down at him.

Chen Yu stepped back, extending his hands to firmly grasp the swords.

"I am a distinguished guest of your Young Master Khaled. Aren't you afraid he'll kill you for treating me this way?"

Their faces were full of scorn, and the force in their hands increased.

It seemed they would not stop until they had finished off Chen Yu.

Just then, two golden spikes suddenly appeared and pierced the backs of their skulls.
