Chapter 44: A Bloody Head
Chapter 44: A Bloody Head
Qiao Nian moved so quickly, lunging at Lin Yuan with the same speed and ferocity she had once used against the palace maids who bullied her. Madam Lin only felt something flash before her eyes, and by the time she reacted, Lin Yuan was already pinned down by Qiao Nian.
“Ah!” Lin Yuan cried out loudly, but the next instant, Qiao Nian covered her mouth.
Grandmother was still resting inside, and she absolutely couldn’t let Lin Yuan disturb her.
But she couldn’t contain the fire burning inside her either!
While one hand covered Lin Yuan’s mouth and restrained her from struggling, Qiao Nian’s other hand mercilessly slapped her face.
She had wanted to hit Lin Yuan for a long time.
But before, she had always held back.
She thought that although Lin Yuan was detestable and hateful, it might just be due to her personality.
Lin Yuan and the Lin family shared the same blood, which was why they protected her so much, and why Lin Yuan always put the Lin family first.
Even though their actions had deeply hurt her, Qiao Nian had always restrained herself from acting against Lin Yuan.
But today, she could no longer endure it.
Because Lin Yuan had crossed her final line!
“Slap!”
The crisp sound of the slap instantly brought tears to Lin Yuan’s eyes.
Madam Lin finally reacted, rushing forward to pull at Qiao Nian, “Nian Nian! What are you doing? Let go of your sister quickly!”
But Madam Lin’s pulling meant little to Qiao Nian.
Back in the laundry bureau, when she had been beating someone while straddling them, at least a dozen palace maids had tried to pull her off.
Some choked her neck, some pulled her hair, all hoping she would get off the other person.
But Qiao Nian had developed a skill for focusing on her target, and once she set her sights on someone, she wouldn’t easily let go!
After pulling a few times, Madam Lin found that not only had she failed to move Qiao Nian, but Qiao Nian had managed to land several more hard slaps on Lin Yuan’s face.
Madam Lin was heartbroken, and Marquis Lin grew even more anxious. He immediately shouted sternly at the surrounding maids, “Are you all blind? Quickly come and protect your young miss!”
This ‘young miss’ naturally referred to Lin Yuan.
A group of maids immediately rushed forward, just like those palace maids in the laundry bureau, and began to pull at Qiao Nian.
But soon, Ning Shuang led another group of maids to charge in, “What are you doing! Let go of our young miss!”
The two groups of maids began to scuffle, shocking Madam Lin and Marquis Lin, who didn’t know what to do.
Qiao Nian seemed oblivious to everything, her eyes fixed on Lin Yuan as she continued to slap her already swollen face, one hit after another!
She wished she could break Lin Yuan’s teeth to prevent her from ever stirring up trouble with Grandmother again!
The commotion in the courtyard eventually disturbed those inside.
When Nanny Su came out, she saw this chaotic scene.
She immediately spotted Qiao Nian, who, despite her disheveled hair from being pulled, showed no signs of being at a disadvantage. So she just stood there watching.
After all, the Old Madam’s room was in the inner chamber, and she had taken medicine. The noise here couldn’t possibly disturb her.
But that Second Young Miss!
Nanny Su’s gaze toward Lin Yuan turned cold.
She had come almost at dawn, claiming to be concerned about the Old Madam’s health. Nanny Su had even thought the Second Young Miss was filial.
Who knew that as soon as she saw the Old Madam, she started crying and told her all those dirty things, angering the Old Madam to the point of illness!
She deserved a good beating to teach her a lesson!
Nanny Su coldly observed the scene, but suddenly noticed Madam Lin running away.
Was she going to get help?
As she was thinking this, unexpectedly, Madam Lin suddenly ran back.
But this time, she was carrying a large stone in her hands.
Nanny Su was startled, and before she could react, she heard Marquis Lin shout, “Madam, don’t!”
But it was too late.
The large stone struck Qiao Nian’s head heavily.
Qiao Nian felt her mind go blank for a moment, unable to hear anything except a sharp, piercing ringing.
Until a drop of blood slid from the corner of her eye, followed by a second, and a third…
Only then did she react, slowly raising her head to look at Madam Lin.
Madam Lin panicked too, meeting Qiao Nian’s blood-stained eyes. She seemed to realize something and hurriedly threw away the stone in her hand.
“No, it’s not like that, Nian Nian, listen to mother’s explanation.” Madam Lin’s voice trembled terribly, “Mother, mother just wanted you to stop, mother didn’t mean, didn’t mean to hurt…”
“Thud!”
Qiao Nian’s vision went black, and she collapsed heavily to the ground.
Marquis Lin was the first to react, “Why are you all still standing there? Go find the court physician! Quick, carry the young miss into the room!”
Under Nanny Su’s direction, the maids in the courtyard, though panicked, successfully carried Qiao Nian into the room.
Nanny Su followed closely behind, but before entering the room, she gave Madam Lin a deep look.
By now, Madam Lin was so frightened she didn’t know what to do, and was embraced by Marquis Lin.
Lin Yuan had also been helped up, with half of her face swollen and blood seeping from the corner of her mouth.
She walked to Madam Lin’s side, sobbing, but said nothing.
However, Madam Lin pulled her into an embrace, wailing loudly.
The family of three huddled together, as if they were the ones most deeply hurt in this incident.
But it was clearly the Old Madam who was nearly angered to death, and the eldest young miss who had her head cracked open and bleeding!
Nanny Su’s eyes hurt from the sight. In the end, she said nothing, only coldly snorted before returning to the room.
An incense stick’s time later, the court physician finally finished bandaging Qiao Nian’s wound and came out.
By this time, Lin Ye had also arrived. Seeing the physician, he hurriedly asked, “How is it? Is her injury serious?”
“It’s a superficial wound, nothing to worry about,” the physician replied flatly.
At this, all four members of the Lin family let out sighs of relief.
The physician initially thought they were concerned about Qiao Nian’s injury, but unexpectedly, Lin Yuan sobbed and hugged Madam Lin, saying, “Mother, it’s alright, you didn’t kill anyone.”
So, they were worried that if Qiao Nian had been killed by the blow, Madam Lin would be guilty of murder.
The physician’s eyes grew slightly colder.
As he was about to leave, he heard Lin Ye say, “Please check on my sister as well.”
He was referring to Lin Yuan, of course.
Compared to earlier, Lin Yuan’s face was even more swollen, with the five finger marks even showing some bluish-purple bruises.
It was evident how hard Qiao Nian had hit her.
The physician had heard about what happened from Nanny Su, so he flatly said, “Just apply some medicine.” With that, he bowed and strode away.
This obvious refusal to examine her angered Lin Ye, who pointed at the physician’s back and muttered, “What kind of attitude is that? Does he think he’s so great just because he’s from the Medicine Valley?”
“Shut up!” Marquis Lin shouted angrily, glaring at Lin Ye, “Today’s incident was caused by you, and you still dare to make such a fuss!”
Though scolded, Lin Ye felt somewhat indignant and couldn’t help mumbling, “I didn’t tell mother to kill Nian Nian…”
