Abyssborn: The Forsaken King

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: A Light in the Abyss

Darkness.

It wrapped around him, pulling him deeper into the abyss.

Kael struggled, but the shadows weren't just chains—they were alive, slithering through his body, sinking into his very soul.

"This is your fate."

Xeltharoth's voice rumbled through the void, neither loud nor soft, but absolute.

"There is no escape."

Kael's breath came in ragged gasps. His body felt heavy, as if his very essence was being drained. The abyss wanted him—no, it was claiming him.

For a moment, he almost gave in.

The whispers were like a lullaby, promising power, understanding… an end to suffering.

Then—a spark.

Deep within him, something resisted.

A light.

Faint. Fragile. But there.

Kael clenched his jaw, forcing his mind to focus. He had come too far to be consumed now.

He reached inward, grasping at the spark, willing it to grow.

And it did.

The darkness around him shuddered, recoiling as if burned.

Xeltharoth's form twisted in agitation, his abyssal mass writhing like a thousand screaming shadows.

"Impossible."

Kael's eyes snapped open—but they weren't the same.

The abyss had tried to devour him…

But he had devoured something in return.

A new power coursed through his veins—something that didn't belong to the abyss, yet thrived within it.

A balance. A contradiction.

And the abyss feared it.

"What are you?" Xeltharoth hissed.

Kael smirked.

"Your mistake."

With a single step, the void around him cracked.

And the world shattered apart.

---

Somewhere else…

The ruins of Vael'Tharun stood in eerie silence.

Beneath the rubble, something stirred.

A figure shifted, rising from the debris.

Its body was twisted, half-human, half-abyssal—an abomination never meant to exist.

It lifted its head, empty sockets gazing at the shattered sky.

"…Kael."

Its voice was a rasp, a whisper that carried across the ruins.

"You woke me up."

The first of the Abyssforged had awakened.

And it was coming for him.
