Absolute Death Game

Chapter 2 What a Crap Game_2

The result of such swearing was that he made countless enemies and always struggled to get by, always being camped to death by RMB players, to the point where he couldn't even leave the safe zone and had to switch games.

After changing over a hundred games, he was well-versed in the various new games on the market, but this 'Absolute Death Domain' was still new to him. He thought about registering an account to check it out, but after searching the login interface for a long time, he failed to find any icon.

Subconsciously, he clicked to log into the game, the screen flashed, and he really got in.

("Damn, can it be done this way? Is this a single-player game? Then what's the point of a login interface?") What came next on the screen was even more surprising to him: a character appeared on his screen—Xia Zuowei, a newcomer dressed in plain clothes, standing in the center of the screen.

Xia Zuowei was increasingly confused. What was going on? How come there's already a character in this game? Don't you need to create one yourself? And why does this character's name match his own?

This kind of thing was somewhat supernatural, and most people would have studied it thoroughly or even been scared stiff, but he was naturally thick-skinned, the kind of person who believes there must be a way when the car gets to the mountain, so rather than panicking, he happily chose to enter the game.

The screen flashed, and Xia Zuowei found himself in a small mountain village, probably Newbie Village, with his character standing in the village's small square.

He opened his character's Attributes to have a look.

Charm: 8.—You're only moderately attractive.

Spirit: 7.—You're very thick-skinned.

Luck: 10.—Your luck is quite average.

He wasn't sure how these Attributes came about, and as he pondered, Xia Zuowei opened the Skill Bar, which already had three skills.

Talent Skills:

Climbing LV3: You are very good at climbing walls and trees.

Pickpocket LV7: You can casually take others' items (if discovered, there's a certain chance of being judged as theft, the chance is determined by the item's value and your eloquence).

Swear LV10: You excel at insulting and slandering others. Those insulted by you have a certain chance of entering a rage state, attacking you recklessly until they kill you.

Xia Zuowei scratched his head, instinctively feeling that these skills were a bit strange, but he didn't think too much about it.

He rarely paid attention to these details when playing games, and besides, the games he played most were often free domestic ones, where he had encountered all kinds of weird things, so he thought it was best to quickly take a newbie quest, level up, and go out to kill monsters.

After looking around, he didn't see any NPCs with quests available to take, nor did he have an initial quest to choose from. Xia Zuowei couldn't help but curl his lip, "Damn, what kind of trash game is this, without even auto-questing and auto-pathfinding." Maybe this game isn't quest-driven? Then just go out and kill monsters.

As he thought, he walked out of the village, saw a firewood stack by the road, and naturally used the Pickpocket skill.

System Prompt: Successfully used Pickpocket skill, acquired item 'Firewood Stick'.

Xia Zuowei burst out laughing: "Haha, this skill isn't bad, took a look in the item inventory."

Firewood Stick: A dry stick of firewood, barely usable as a weapon.

("So crappy? Well, it's better than nothing.") Thinking this, Xia Zuowei kept walking towards the outside, and as he passed by the village gate, a guard at the gate shouted to him, "Be careful, the monsters outside are very strong."

He figured it was definitely an NPC's preset dialogue, so he didn't take it seriously.

Following the path outside the village, he walked for a while. The way was extremely quiet, and he quickly reached the edge of a forest. Xia Zuowei thought to himself, there must be monsters in the forest, so he wormed his way through the gaps between the trees and entered. Sure enough, he hadn't gone far when he spotted a wild rabbit. This should be the lowest level monster, right?

Using the worst weapon to fight the worst monster shouldn't be a problem, Xia Zuowei thought as he charged at it.

In Xia Zuowei's opinion, if it wasn't an aggressive monster, then it should obediently wait for his stick to hit its head, offering up its first contribution of experience. But strangely, before he could get close, the rabbit perked up its ears in alarm and darted into the thick forest with a speed he couldn't match.

Xia Zuowei didn't care too much; he blindly followed it for a while until he lost sight of it completely.

"Damn, what kind of game is this, where the monsters actually run away!" he cursed in frustration. When he turned around, a wild dog appeared behind him.

"Huh, there are monsters here too." Thinking this, Xia Zuowei approached with his stick ready. The game was quite realistic; the wild dog looked fierce and menacing, baring its teeth at him. Its crazed look gave Xia Zuowei the jitters.

(It's just a game, what's there to be afraid of?) he told himself, gripping his stick and rushing forward.

After two or three rounds of trading blows, Xia Zuowei started to realize something wasn't right. Why was he losing health so quickly? This wild dog was even tougher than him. Could it be a mini boss? No, that didn't seem right; it was clearly just a minor monster. "Damn, what a crappy game where even a minor monster is so tough."

Seeing his health had dropped by half, Xia Zuowei thought it was better to run. But it seemed he couldn't outrun the monster. Spotting a large tree, he quickly activated his Climbing skill and scrambled up it. The wild dog was howling below, but after waiting for a while and seeing Xia Zuowei wasn't coming down, it left disgruntled.

Xia Zuowei suddenly had a bright idea—if he jumped down, could he squash the dog?

His thought process was quite leap-frogging. Without further ado, he jumped down from the tree, aiming for the right spot.

The wild dog got startled by the sight of a big living being falling from the sky and dodged backward sharply. Xia Zuowei flailed the stick in his hands mid-air and landed a solid hit.

One-hit kill. Seeing the wild dog's brain matter splattered on the ground, Xia Zuowei couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement. He checked the system log.

System Log: Speed increase by 327%, you inflicted 45 damage on the wild dog, you have killed the wild dog, gained 5 combat experience points.

"There's even a speed layering system? This game is awesome!" Xia Zuowei thought as he turned over the wild dog's body, but his face fell when he saw that it hadn't dropped anything.

"Damn, what a crappy game, killing a monster and it doesn't drop anything." This was already his fourth time swearing since he entered the game less than ten minutes ago. The last time this happened was when he was playing EVE. However, he soon discovered that he could actually put the wild dog's body in his inventory, so naturally, he chose to pick it up.

The fall wasn't without a price; he lost more than a dozen health points, leaving only a third of his health. If he encountered another wild dog, he probably would get bitten to death in a few bites.

Should he commit suicide to return to the city? Xia Zuowei hesitated for a moment but decided to run back instead, considering it a chance to familiarize himself with the map.

Seeing the gates of the village once more, Xia Zuowei finally felt a bit safer.

"Hey, kid, back again? Did the wild dog give you a hard time?" the gatekeeping militiaman suddenly asked with a chuckle.

Huh, NPCs can talk too? Could this be the rumored intelligent NPC? "Are you an intelligent NPC?" Xia Zuowei asked curiously.

"Damn, you've been reading too many novels. Do I look as wise and majestic as an NPC? Of course, I'm a player."

"What!" Xia Zuowei was indeed shocked. "Players can be guards too? How do you do that?"

Instead of answering his question directly, the man asked, "You're a solo player, aren't you?"

Xia Zuowei nodded, "Yes, what about it?"

"Nothing? Didn't the person who gave you this game tell you about it?"

"No one gave me this game. It started on my computer by itself."

The man became even more puzzled, "Are you sure?"

"Absolutely sure."

Seeing that the man had lapsed into deep thought, Xia Zuowei couldn't help feeling a bit disdainful, thinking it was just a broken game, what's the big fuss. (To be continued.
