Chapter 169: The Game is Not Over Yet
"Wu, it seems we've already shaken them off, right?" Lu Xinying asked hesitantly. The members of the Vermilion Bird Group had now run to the other side of the building, a place they had never been to before.
"It seems so, but don't let your guard down," Wu Min'er warned, glancing behind her. The soldiers hadn't caught up, and it seemed like they had indeed managed to escape. "Let's pick up the pace. We're almost out of here."
As she spoke, she surveyed the surrounding terrain. An exit glowing with light caught her attention. "We can get out that way," she said, leading the group towards the door.
As they neared the door, Wu Min'er suddenly felt an ominous sensation. "Wait," she whispered, stopping in her tracks and flicking her wrist sharply. A throwing knife shot out towards their rear.

The knife flew past the cheek of a man in a black coat, who didn't even flinch. Instead, he spoke in an admiring tone, "Worthy of the leader of the Vermilion Bird Group, you've discovered me. To be honest, out of all the company's employees, you're the one I admire the most."
Wu Min'er frowned, having no recollection of this person appearing so suddenly and was even more surprised that she couldn't sense his presence—as if he were just an illusion.
"Who are you? Do we know each other?"
"You don't know me, but I am very familiar with you. Perhaps you're unaware, but I have been observing you all for a long time," the man said as he walked towards them, hands in pockets, appearing relaxed and not the least bit tense. However, Wu Min'er couldn't afford to be relaxed.
She made her decision in an instant—to eliminate this man. "Attack together, take him down!" Wu Min'er commanded, a Tiger Fang Saber suddenly in her hand, the right gripping the saber and the left holding a Butterfly Knife inversely. She took up a combat stance.
Her four subordinates closed in, encircling the man in black in a pentagonal formation. The man didn't show any sign of nervousness. "Nice dagger. Did you buy it online? But you know they're all replicas, right? If you join us, I can get you a genuine one."
Wu Min'er was not swayed by the offer of a genuine saber. "Even a replica is enough to kill you."
"Are you sure?" asked the man, seemingly amused.
"Oh, I am quite sure. If you don't believe me, let me take a stab at you and see," she replied.
The man spread his hands invitingly, unconcerned about the five gleaming daggers aimed at him.
Wu Min'er signaled with her eyes, and all five of them charged at the man simultaneously.
Engaging combat mode! She locked her spirit entirely on the man in black, monitoring him with her spiritual power, making stealth and invisibility pointless. As she approached, her dagger thrust out like a bolt of lightning.
She struck nothing but air, feeling as if she had plunged into darkness, passing straight through without resistance. Realizing something was wrong, she spun around to see the man still standing unscathed, unmoved. The others also missed their attacks.
A flicker of fear crossed Wu Min'er's mind; she had never faced an opponent like this before. Could he be a ghost?
"Freeze, hands up!" Suddenly, soldiers sprang from all around, the pursuers having caught up amidst the chaos. They aimed their loaded guns at the group, some even equipped with thermal imagers—no wonder they could see them in stealth mode.
The group was stunned, with guns pointed at them, a situation far from pleasurable. No matter how swift they were, surviving such concentrated firepower would be difficult. Lu Xinying became shrouded in a shadow—Possessing Shadow—positioning himself in front of Wu Min'er. A soldier reflexively pulled the trigger, bullets hitting Lu Xinying but disappearing without effect.
Seizing the momentary safety, Wu Min'er performed a 'Shadow Jump" and vanished. The next instant, she appeared behind a soldier, pulling the pin on a smoke grenade at his waist.
Pff, thick smoke surged out. Whatever brand the smoke grenade was, it emitted dense and rapid smoke, and soon the indoor space was white and opaque.
"Split up!" she shouted, knocking down the soldier with a sweeping leg kick and rushing towards the stairs they remembered. A volley of gunfire erupted behind them, bullets whizzing wildly. Wu Min'er's leg suddenly felt a sharp pain from a stray bullet, nearly causing her to trip and fall. She rolled and staggered towards the exit, but a dark figure suddenly appeared.
Instinctively, she thrust her knife, but her wrist was abruptly seized. Attempting to kick, her left leg, weakened from pain, failed her, and she lost balance, unable to deliver the blow. Something struck the back of her head hard, and Wu Min'er lost consciousness.
Outside the building, a figure suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Seeing no one around, they fled into a narrow alley, skirting a wall before stopping, panting heavily while glancing back. No one followed.
