Chapter 156: The Overbearing Li Jian
"Hey, Senior Xiao, why didn't your colleague come today?" Situ Yu asked, looking at Xiao Buli with curiosity. After waiting a while without getting an answer, Situ Yu suddenly realized that Xiao Buli was looking gravely toward the entrance of the newcomer area.
"What's wrong?" Situ Yu asked, puzzled.
"Nothing much, just waiting for something else," Xiao Buli appeared extremely calm, but his eyes seemed to be expecting something.
Before Situ Yu could inquire further, a faint cry for help suddenly came from outside the door.
"Help, murder!" Li Baocheng was yelling as he ran for his life, feeling as though he had never run so fast before. Just a moment ago, he took the opportunity to rush out of the White Tiger Group's computer room while the others momentarily held back Li Jian's pursuit. He headed toward the manager's office in a daze, only to find the door locked; he knocked a few times, but there was no response.
Damn it, of all times to be absent, right, go to the Green Dragon Group! He ran toward the Green Dragon Group, kicked open one room, no one there, kicked open another, still no one.
"Damn it, where did all the company people go?" Li Baocheng felt like crying without tears. When he dashed back to the lounge, screams could faintly be heard from the White Tiger Group's computer room, scaring him out of his wits, and now he just thought of finding someone who could help.
(That's right, the newcomer area!) Li Baocheng finally remembered and turned to run toward the newcomer area. He kicked open the door, and Xiao Buli, who had been looking up, felt a stir in his heart upon seeing Li Baocheng.
"Why are you here? What are you shouting about outside?"
"Quick, that Li Jian, he, he's gone mad!" Li Baocheng gasped out the words. Xiao Buli felt a surge of excitement in his heart, it seemed the Demon Clan invasion had begun.
"I'll be right there!" He turned back and glanced at the newcomers, shouting sternly, "Everyone get into the elevator right now if you don't want to die, and get out of the building, quickly!" Having said that, he didn't care whether they obeyed or not, but grabbed Li Baocheng by the collar and dragged him out.
The newcomers were left looking at each other in dismay before they stood up in a panic and ran out. Situ Yu's heart raced with excitement and confusion. After hesitating for a moment, she followed suit, feeling instinctively that something significant had happened, probably related to the cases she was investigating. To be safe, she took out the pistol she had brought in secretly.
"No, no, Old Li, I am—ah!" A dying scream made Situ Yu's heart tremble, and she stopped in her tracks, the chilling scream invoking a sense of unease.
The newcomers were blocked at the entrance to the break room. Situ Yu gripped the gun tightly, the cold metal giving her a sense of security. Calming her spirit, she gritted her teeth and took a step forward again.
At the crossroads of the break room, Li Jian, bloody and holding a large axe, was standing there, pulling the blade from a body that had been split in two. It seemed the victim had escaped from the White Tiger Group's computer room but couldn't avoid the slaughter. The road from the break room to the White Tiger Group was covered in blood.
Li Jian turned to look at Xiao Buli and the newcomers behind him, and smiled wickedly. His sunglasses had been discarded somewhere, revealing a pair of purple eyes that emitted a strange glow.
The newcomers had never seen such a scene before and were petrified.
However, Xiao Buli hadn't expected this situation but, looking back at the newcomers, he sighed. This was not the time to retreat.
Reaching out into the air, he grabbed and a semi-transparent, crystal-like sword appeared in his hand.
This move astonished the newcomers behind him, especially Situ Yu, whose shock was indescribable. Could it be that everything Yaoyao said was true? But how was that possible? Her mind was in turmoil until Xiao Buli suddenly grabbed her wrist and snapped her back to reality.
"Take them downstairs; I'll hold him off," Xiao Buli said. Situ Yu nodded instinctively and led the newcomers toward the direction of the elevator. Xiao Buli stood sideways, guarding cautiously between Li Jian and the newcomers. Li Jian didn't seem interested in pursuing the newcomers, instead, he started laughing.
"It's useless. They might escape today, but they won't escape tomorrow. The Demon Clan will eventually rule this world! Stop struggling and join the Demon Clan; you will gain unrivaled strength."
Xiao Buli scoffed dismissively, "With that bunch of weaklings? Heh, I don't think so. Besides, is the Demon Clan something you can just join as you please?"
Li Jian nodded, "Naturally. The Demon Clan has always been diverse. Any race, any creature that is willing to submit to the will of the Abyssal Lord can become part of the Demon Clan, including you and me."
Xiao Buli was taken aback. It was the first time he had heard that the Demon Clan was not a single race. On second thought, the Demon Clan he had encountered before indeed seemed to vary in appearance. But what was this Abyssal Lord?
"Sorry, but I'm not interested in being brainwashed; it's no different from being dead."
Li Jian sighed, "What a pity. I had thought to make you my partner, but since you foolishly resist such power, then embrace your destiny of death."
Xiao Buli was amused by Li Jian's tone, "Hey, Old Li, can't you speak normally after demonizing? Why do you sound like an NPC?"
Li Jian didn't get angry but instead, with a smile, swung his Demonic Flame Giant Axe fiercely. In the next moment, both of them charged towards each other.
When axe met sword, the sound of clashing steel filled the air, and after only two or three exchanges Xiao Buli sensed trouble. His strength was not on the same level as Li Jian's. Li Jian had always been stronger, and after demonizing, his advantage became overwhelming. Within a few moves, Xiao Buli could no longer keep up.
In a rush, he switched from Gale Sword Skills to Tai Chi Sword Skills barely managing to hold his own. The longsword in his hand got heavier and heavier, with Li Jian's attacks carrying endless strength. Trying to achieve a deflection became increasingly difficult until, with a loud thud, the Ethereal Sword was knocked flying from his grasp.
Xiao Buli hastily executed Shadow Clone, retreating quickly backward, while a mirror image that was connected to him did the opposite, charging towards Li Jian.
Taking advantage of the moment Li Jian was fooled by the illusion, he escaped far off, summoning a new Ethereal Sword once again.
"Heh, it seems I underestimated you after all, you do have some tricks up your sleeve," Li Jian said with a smirk after bringing his axe down on the mere mirror image.
"What I have is more than just a couple of tricks," Xiao Buli retorted.
With his longsword raised high, Xiao Buli swung down forcefully — Mysterious Ice Slash!
A crescent-shaped white Sword Qi fiercely swept out, but Li Jian casually waved his hand and with a loud bang shattered the Sword Qi mid-air, the fragments absorbed by the giant axe, its black Demonic Flame growing even more intense, evidently not an ordinary weapon.
Xiao Buli then unleashed another Sword Qi Slash, which Li Jian again shattered, stepping forward in the process.
Palm Thunder! A ball of lightning condensed in Xiao Buli's hand. "Take my Sith Lightning!" he bellowed, launching it at Li Jian with full force.
Li Jian stuck to his old routine, hoisting his giant axe and completely absorbing the power of the lightning.
"You still need to hypnotize yourself to activate skills? It seems you're not as smart as I thought," Li Jian said, taking another step forward. "But no matter, if you join the Demon Clan, you can use these supernatural powers whenever you wish. I'll give you one last chance."
Xiao Buli replied with his actions —
Ultimate Skill — Wind Rolls The Scattered Clouds! He crouched, hand on the sword, suddenly striking a drawing sword stance, and the next second, brilliant sword light erupted like a dazzling white lotus.
Li Jian sighed and his axe blade also started spinning.
Ultimate Skill — Endless Whirlwind!
A black and a white whirlwind collided instantly, the white one abruptly stopped, and Xiao Buli was sent flying backward by the force, his Ethereal Sword slipping from his hand once more.
(A head-on collision really isn't my thing, looks like it's time to bail.) Xiao Buli thought as he felt a suffocating sensation in his chest and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Watching Li Jian slowly approaching with his axe, just as Xiao Buli struggled to stand and was about to flee using Fleeting Light and Shadow, a sharp cry suddenly came from behind.
"Don't move! Stand right there!" Xiao Buli turned to see Situ Yu had for some reason returned, holding a small handgun with the barrel aimed directly at Li Jian.
Li Jian just snorted disdainfully but didn't stop, continuing to advance towards them.
"Stand right there!" Situ Yu shouted again, her hand holding the gun trembling uncontrollably. She had never fired at a real person until now.

"Shoot, you idiot!" A whisper-like voice sounded in her ear, and without a second thought, Situ Yu pulled the trigger with a loud bang.
At such a close distance, the bullet easily hit Li Jian's arm, and he looked at the blood flowing from the wound with a ferocious smile, "So this is what being shot by a bullet feels like? I've learned something new. But now it's my turn." With a fierce motion, he raised his giant axe to bring it crashing down without a care.
It was over, and Situ Yu felt a profound sense of despair, but suddenly, a figure appeared behind Li Jian out of nowhere—it was Yaoyao! With a soft thrust, Yaoyao's vicious backstab plunged directly into Li Jian's back.
Even Li Jian couldn't help but scream out from such an attack. As he turned and swung his axe, Yaoyao nimbly avoided the strike with several flips backward, landing ten meters away. Her hand, gripping the dagger dripping with blood, showed no fear but a calm and confident expression as she confronted Li Jian.
That look made Situ Yu feel ashamed, comparing herself to the thief she had once caught made her feel incompetently pathetic as a police officer just moments ago. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for it, your support is my greatest motivation.)
