Chapter 291: Duty
"I see. I must admit that this conversation will likely leave me haunted for the rest of my days wondering if everything I've done will have been for naught. However I must focus on the present as that is what is in danger. You said that this Dialga is the one in charge of all of time and that it was the one that prevented any major alterations to history. But if you know this surely team Galactic is also aware of it so why would they still research controlling time?" Rowan asked after putting aside his own thoughts on the potential future reset of humanity.-
"Once again you are operating off of incomplete information due to your dismissal of the history of Sinnoh. Are you familiar with the legend of the great Hisui hero?" I asked and he shook his head. I sighed "Well I don't have all the information but the version of the story I understand is that long long ago in an age when the land was savage and uncontrolled a great calamity of space and time occurred above Mt. Coronet that sent the land into disarray."-
"The guardians of the land rampaged and caused great destruction and the people were nearly powerless to stop it. Then on the brink of despair a hero appeared strong and brave who quelled these guardians. With great conviction the hero was granted the red chain of fate by the three lake spirits that were an aspect of the mind. Uxie, knowledge incarnate, spirit of Acuity. Azelf, willpower incarnate, spirit of Valor, Mesprit, Emotion incarnate, spirit of Verity. With the aid of these three beings the hero gained the red chain that they used to bind space and time thereby restoring balance to the land." I narrated to the best of my ability.-
"Team Galactic intends to use the red chain to bind Dialga then?" he asked with a dark expression. "If they truly intended to rewrite history then they have no other choice but to seek the chain out, not that they'll find it as the original chain was destroyed after it's purpose was fulfilled as far as I understand it." I said and his expression didn't get any better. "If they were to somehow get their hands on a red chain though it's possible?" he asked for confirmation and I nodded.-
"It seems I'll need to place the three lakes under protection to prevent their plan from coming to fruition then. I trust you will be making your own strides to dismantle the threat as well?" he asked and I nodded. "At every chance I get." I say seriously. Our conversation ends there and he leaves for his own duties and arrangements. I in turn head for the general store I spotted earlier to purchase some things I used during my trip as well as new supplies. Simple things like meat and cheese as well as an inkwell, calligraphy brushes and lots and lots of ink and paper.-
I needed the writing supplies to practice drawing the Unknown runes safely. A special ink was used for the real thing so even if I wrote the runes until my hand fell off with this normal ink nothing would happen as it couldn't hold any of the power of the runes. Thankfully I just so happened to have the writing skill from my time living in the cave at the foot of Mt. Gray in Hoenn. It was still at novice mastery since I'd never bothered with it until now but just having the skill was enough to make the practice process FAR faster than if I didn't.-
This was a benefit of proper form and execution when writing and drawing Unknown runes was no different. I found the look I got purchasing these supplies rather amusing as it was the kinda look someone had when their mental image and reality clashed disharmoniously. I was large , scarred and had an eyepatch so the last thing someone would think looking at me was someone who dabbled in the poetic art of calligraphy. It was just a fancy form of writing in truth but most considered it more of an art than actual writing.-
Once I was done in the shop I decided to take the Celebi to the pokecenter so I could send it to Birch who could in turn send it to Oak. The way I figured it this was the best option for the thing as I trusted the good professor would make the right choice for it with far better judgement than I. I might be an anomaly with my otherworldly knowledge and the benefits I gain from the system but I knew there were still fields I was never likely to be great at.-
The sort of wisdom and farsightedness that Oak possessed for example was not something I could ever hope to match. I was too impulsive for that and I doubted that was going to change in time either, not that I wanted it to. I wasn't that deep of a planner by nature, plain and simple. Sure I could make wide plans that had many smaller parts like my path to immortality but that was a VERY wide plan with so much wiggle room that it wasn't even funny. There were no absolute points in this plan of mine besides where I wanted it to end and even that had some vagueness to it.-
By contrast Oak was known to make plans that were so solid that every single point of them happened exactly how he said it would years later with only the smallest chance of outside variables changing something. If I'm being honest it was frankly a terrifying level of depth to think in and made me glad the man had strong morals he followed. Still I figured that if anybody was able to correctly figure out what to do with the Celebi it would be him. When I sent the thing through the PC system to Birch I also made sure to tell my friend not to release it himself as if it escaped or worse retaliated it would cause serious problems.-
My greatest concern with him releasing it was that it might straight up murder him which would be a serious hit to me emotionally as I was a bit attached to the man. I might even slip back into apathy just to escape the pain of the grief which would undo all my progress till now.
