A new obito

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: the visit

The cell was cold and dark, illuminated only by the faint light of a torch in the hallway outside. Obito sat on the floor, his hands and feet chained. His body was completely sealed, unable to use chakra, and his eyes were covered with special bandages that blocked the Sharingan and the Rinnegan. Despite everything, his mind remained active, swirling with thoughts and memories.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching. It was a familiar sound, one he recognized even in the darkness.

—Kakashi —murmured Obito, without needing to see him.

—Obito —replied Kakashi, stopping in front of the cell. His voice was calm, but it carried a weight of sadness and concern—. I came to see you.

Obito didn't respond immediately. He knew Kakashi wasn't there just out of courtesy. There was something more behind his visit.

—What do you want? —he finally asked, his tone a mix of resignation and curiosity.

Kakashi leaned against the wall outside the cell, crossing his arms.

—I want to understand. After everything that happened, after everything you did... why did you help us defeat Kaguya? What changed in you?

Obito let out a bitter laugh.

—What changed in me? That's the question, isn't it? Maybe nothing. Maybe everything.

Kakashi watched him carefully, even though Obito couldn't see his expression.

—I don't understand. After all the evil you caused, after all the pain... why did you decide to help us in the end?

Obito sighed, feeling the weight of the truth in his chest.

—Maybe I realized I was wrong. Or maybe... I just didn't want to die without doing something good for once.

Kakashi fell silent for a moment, trying to process Obito's words.

—That doesn't sound like the Obito I knew. The Obito I knew was willing to destroy the world for his ideal.

—People change, Kakashi —Obito replied—. Or maybe... you were never able to see me for who I really was.

Kakashi frowned, confused.

—What do you mean by that?

Obito leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

—Nothing. Just that... maybe you don't know as much about me as you think.

Kakashi looked down, feeling a knot in his stomach.

—The Kage from the other villages insisted that you remain imprisoned. They say it's necessary to maintain peace.

Obito nodded slowly, as if he had already expected it.

—I'm not surprised. After all, I'm Obito Uchiha, the war criminal. No matter what I do now, the past will always be there.

Kakashi stepped a little closer to the cell, lowering his voice.

—It's not fair. After everything you did in the end, after helping us... you deserve a second chance.

Obito leaned back against the wall, feeling the cold metal against his back.

—Justice is rarely fair, Kakashi. But maybe... maybe this is what I need.

Kakashi fell silent for a moment, feeling the weight of the situation.

—I won't leave you alone —he finally said—. I'll do what I can to help you.

Obito nodded, though he knew Kakashi's words were more of a comfort than a promise.

—Thank you, Kakashi. That means more than you think.

When Kakashi left, Obito was left alone in the darkness of his cell. His thoughts returned to his situation, to his identity.

—Edward... that name means nothing here anymore. This body, these memories, this destiny... it's all Obito Uchiha's. I can't keep denying it.

With a sigh, Obito leaned back against the wall, feeling the weight of the chains on his body.

—I am Obito Uchiha —he murmured to himself, as if saying it out loud would help him accept it—. No matter how I got here, no matter who I was before. Now I am him, and I must face the consequences of his actions.

He closed his eyes, imagining the faces of Rin, Kakashi, and Minato. All of Obito's memories flowed through his mind, mixing with his own.

—If this is my destiny, then I accept it. I am Obito Uchiha, and I will endure whatever awaits me.

---

Outside the cell, Kakashi walked down the hallway, his mind filled with unanswered questions.

—There's something about him I don't understand. Something that doesn't add up. But I don't know what it is.

Meanwhile, Obito mentally prepared himself for what was to come. He knew the road ahead wouldn't be easy, but he was determined to walk it.

—No matter how long I stay here —he murmured—. No matter what they do to me. I am Obito Uchiha, and I will find a way to redeem myself.
