Chapter 72: Chapter 69
The sound of softly rustling water entered my ears, along with the faint rumbling of thunder and lightning.
I felt a mellow sense of comfort as I gently bobbed on the waters. The ripples on the surface creating a unique symphony of touch upon my skin.
Slowly, the ebb and flow carried me by its currents.
Overhead, I can a stationary storm. It looked within arms reach, yet it appears distant.
Still, there is no earthy land beyond the horizon.
Nor is there shimmering light that blinds my eyes.
Or rather, It was until an intrusive glitter entered my mouth. I did not feel or sense its forthcoming. It was as if it appeared into existence or was already there from the very beginning and I overlooked it.
But it wasn't the mystery that took my attention, it was the sensation on my tongue. It wasn't anything I tasted before, it was a new experience.
The flavour of Red.
And so I sank.
The air in my lungs have left my body, forming distinct bubbles outlined in white, as I watched them escape my lips and unto the surface.
Deeper, I sank.
And yet, what was supposed to be a harrowing experience of drowning a watery demise as I suffocate, I felt calm.
Even deeper, I sank.
Yet oddly enough, I feel warm.
And even more odd, is that I see a faint purple halo.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I was stirred awake by the gentle hand stroking my hair. When I looked over to the source, I saw Kuroko laying next to me naked.
"Good morning~♡ How are you on this wonderful morning?~♡" She said with a teasing grin.
'She also looks cute with her hair down.' I thought.
Then I blinked once.
Then twice.
And like a broken dam, the memories of last night came like flood. I felt my face heat up at the realisation of what just happened a few hour prior. My body felt tired, but it also came along with a sense of satisfaction.
"I'll take that reaction as a compliment~♡" She said, the smirk never leaving her face. "Now, as my body is still a bit sore~♡" She whispered closer to my ears. "I need you to carry me ot the bathroom~♡ So we can freshen up before breakfast~♡ And to save time~♡ We should go together~♡♡♡"
I was still too embarrassed to say anything so I just put her in a princess carry and wordlessly brought us to bathroom.
Cleaning ourselves took a bit longer than I anticipated, mostly because Kuroko is a cuddle bug that kept nuzzling in my arms, and because she kept teasing me in multiple ways like blowing air into my ears or licking the faint scar on my neck or tempting me for a second round.
Needless to say that we were a bit late for breakfast.
The first meal of the day because an awkward nightmare for me. I couldn't look at anyone else in the eyes after doing the deed twice in my girlfriend's home. I can feel multiple gazes set on me, whether those were of approval or not were unknown as I'm doing my best to ignore them. Kuroko wasn't affected though, as her giddy mood was plain for all to see.
After eating, Kuroko pulled me along for a tour of her home.
First up was the kitchen since it was the closest one to the dining room. We briefly greeted the three chefs there before we moved on to the next areas.
The waiting room. The living room. The library. Then she teleported us to the garden. The greenhouse. The garage. The only ones left out were the servant's quarters and her father's private study. Her house has a warmth and sense of liveliness that couldn't be found in the dorms...
Like the warmth of the sun when I was back in Gensokyo, back in the days when I was home.
Even when her family's finances is in the upper ranks, she still lived and grew up modestly for someone with plenty of disposable income.
Then she teleported us back inside, somewhere specific. It was Infront of a large picture hanging on a wall.
It depicted a slender woman in an elegant dress with long, wavy brown hair and gleaming golden brown eyes. She sat on chair while a blonde man in a crisp suit is standing by her side, a hand on her shoulder.
"...This was my mother." Said Kuroko as she intertwined her hand with mine. "I wanted to introduce you two today, too."
"I see." I flicked my eyes over the painting and nodded. "Nice to meet you ma'am. I-I'm Shuzenji Kizuki, and I have the pleasure of dating your daughter."
"You didn't have to, but that was very sweet of you." Giggled Kuroko. She sighed softly and set her head on mine. "She passed away when she gave birth to me. I never really got to know her. All I have are secondhand accounts from the people around me to go by."
I kept quiet, but I gently squeezed her hand in support.
"Everyone said that she was a kind, but stubborn woman. That she tends to dive into trouble headfirst because of misunderstandings during her time at Judgement. Dad even said that if not her partners, he was the one that usually gets her out of it." She flashed me a smile. "I find it a bit amusing that in terms of temperament, I take after my father more. But did I get my quirk from her, mostly. She had a swapping quirk, but it had an inflexible limit like the general shape or size have to be similar."
"I don't suppose you take after your father in terms of tastes in a spouse?"
She snorts. "You know what? I think I do, actually." She laughed. "Who knows what sort of trouble you'll get into. This year was a raid, last year was a bombing, the year before that was a human trafficking ring for illegal experiments. Someone has to keep an eye on you."
"In my defence, I just got caught up in at least two of those."
"All the more reason someone has to be there." She hugged my arm and leaned on me. We just stood there in relative silence, enjoying each other's warmth and company.
"...Kuroko?"
"Yes?"
"Thanks for being here."
We locked eyes, and kissed- a chaste one.
For a few seconds at least, until Kuroko teleported us to another room and locked the door behind her.
I guess she was pent up?
~~~~~~~~~
Our stay at the Shirai Estate was an enjoyable few days. Not only did I manage to get along --Or at least, get acquainted-- with the servants but I also managed to have a few talks with Kuroko's father.
It's nice to see that he thinks of me alright at least. The man is both charismatic and scarily smart, no wonder he has a thriving business empire.
I was happy that they view me in a positive light rather than being averse of my being. Especially because of how many escapades I've had during my stay. Although, they might just be turning a blind eye to it because Kuroko is the ones that pulls me along?
Unfortunately, like all good things, it had to come to an end sooner or later.
We had to leave and return to our respective dorms back in Academy City. Despite there being only a few months left of our stay in the prestigious land of studies, it will be the most hectic one so far.
Not only because it is the final semester of our final year, which means exam season, but also because me and Kuroko have the responsibility to relegate the successors of our position at Judgment. Not to mention that I also need to warm so other supernaturals about picking up the slack and having them deal with the miasma catalyst when I'm gone.
In addition to that, we also have to pass the strict clearances and security certification protocols to make sure that no, we aren't spies tries to steal confidential data under the guise of studying.
Getting out of Academy City is harder than it is to get inside.

""""""Cheers!!!""""""
We toasted and then dug in on the food set in front of us.
Since we would all get really busy in the immediate foreseeable future, we decided to align a single day off to have a small party. Today is just us friends hanging out in the usual family restaurant.
"So... This is it, huh?" I didn't quite catch who it was that said it, but I'm sure that everyone had similar thoughts.
"Nah." Casually dismissed Saten. "Not like we wouldn't be able to see each other again forever. We'll just be separating for a bit, that's all."
"That's true." Chimed in Shiina, but her eyes are focused more on her feathers, a faint blush creeping up from her neck to her face. "We can still video call or chat each other. What's a bit of distance in the face of technology."
Uiharu tilted her head. "Is it because you're the only one going the farthest? Your art school is all down way down south, right?"
Saten grinned. "Or maybe, is it because you'd be separated from your precious flower?"
"CHIIRK?!" She squaked and her feathers ruffled. Haru, who was keeping quiet, similarly reacted with a spittake. "Y-you! How do you know about that?!!?!"
"'If only I could put you in a pot and take you with me. I don't want to be separated from my flowery prince. Every time I see a petal fall from a tree, I am reminded of your alluring beauty.' Should I go on?" Teased Saten. "You should really double check on who you send your texts to."
"Kuh." Shiina slumped down her seat to hide her face. "Just kill me now... Death is more preferable than this torment."
I turned my eyes over to the beet-red Haru. "You guys are going out? Congratulations."
"Uh, yeah." He cleared his throat. "Can we change topics now?"
"You shouldn't tease the two of them so much, Saten." Chided Kuroko. "Let the two of them have their privacy."
"Alright, fine." Saten Backed down. "But if she sends me another text that was meant for him then It's free game."
"Although, on the topic of schools, have you decided where to go, Saten-san?" Asked Uiharu next to her.
"Oh, yeah, I did!" She nodded and pointed at the direction of me and Kuroko. "I'll be going with them and applying for the U.A. support course. Figured that getting my licence from there could help grease up some processes in the future."
"That's fair." I agreed with her. "Plus there's also the sports festival, right? You can show off there and get the attention of potential sponsors."
"Exactly!" She exclaimed. "Building my suits don't cost cheap you know! Just the framework alone can go up a few dozen thousand yen. Scavenging for supplies in dumps and junkyards can only get me so far." She sighed dramatically. "At least, with access to their workshops, I wouldn't have to spend time making and maintaining my own homemade tools and equipment."
"Right." Added Shiina after she recovered. "I guess that means you three are still going to see each other often regardless of scheduling conflicts, huh?"
"Oh, I heard about that." Said Uiharu. "They began adopting a dormitory system now, right? That sounds nice."
"I wonder how it would look like." Wondered Haru. "I mean, it's U.A. so they probably have a different kind of dormitory than the ones we have here."
"Don't they have multiple city-sized training grounds?" Inquired Shiina. "Do you think they'll build a dormitory city rather than just an apartment building?"
"Probably not." Kuroko shook her head in disagreement. "Even Academy City only has something similar, and that's because at least half the city is a research center. U.A. is still entirely just a school at the end of the day. Once the students graduate, they couldn't come to work there unlike this place because U.A. is strictly just a place for learning. There isn't an economy to circulate there."
"Oh, I see."
"Alright, enough about that! Who's ready for Karaoke?!" Proclaimed Saten, and the rest of our day off was spent in hanging out with each other, savoring the rest of our relative free time.
