10x Cashback: Your Wealth Is Mine

Chapter 141: Karma

I eyed the creditors sitting across from me in the private conference room at Highland Bank. I could practically feel their skepticism as they went over the final agreement.

The large table between us was filled with senior executives, each one flanked by a team of legal advisors and financial experts. They looked like if the Avengers got sidekicks and became financial experts.

These were veterans. Seasoned warriors who are already accustomed to wrangling over contracts worth millions, and today, I was their… opponent? Nah. More like a business partner.

"Mr. Voss." One of them finally broke the silence, sliding the final page of the document toward me. "It seems everything is in order. By purchasing Harrington & Co.'s debt, you effectively hold the leash. But you're certain this is the move you want to make?"

He looked at me over his spectacles like a teacher who wants to scold a school boy. No idea why he's being like this. I'm helping them take debt off their hands.

Well, it didn't matter what they thought about it.

I smiled at him, my pen poised over the signature line. "Confidence is the foundation of good business, my good sir. Besides, the leash is exactly what I need."

"I appreciate the swift cooperation from the bank." I said, smiling as the sound of my pen scratching the paper filled the room. "This… acquisition is important to stabilizing my portfolio."

I signed my name with a flourish, sealing the deal. The creditors exchanged glances but said nothing. They knew exactly why I was buying Harrington & Co's debt and exactly what it meant and I could tell that they were split about it.

Some disapproved while others were like the Jokers to the Batmans. They wanted to see carnage.

Well, they'll see it. As for the disapproving dudes, I don't care what they think about this whole thing. This was business, not a morality contest.

With the documents secured in my briefcase, I stood and extended to the nearest executive. "A pleasure doing business with you."

"Good luck, Mr. Voss." He shook my hand firmly. "You'll need it."

Nah, I won't. Luck definitely isn't a factor in my plans.

I left the conference room and walked out with a confident smirk on my face.

The moment Charles Harrington had decided to gamble a bit of his company's future on FleetForward and other speculative ventures, he'd written the epitaph on his own grave.

Now, with his debt in my hands, the end was no longer a question of if. It was a matter of when.

Harrington's favorite restaurant was exactly what you'd expect from a man with such an inflated ego. It was a Michelin-starred fortress of exclusivity that catered to the elite.

The maître d' didn't even bat an eye when I strolled in, my obviously expensive and tailored suit and self-assured demeanor made sure no questions were asked.

I was shown to the private dining room where Charles Harrington sat nursing a glass of red wine.

He looked up as I entered, his face contorting into a sneer. "Voss. What a surprise."

"Charles." I greeted with a grin, sliding into the chair across from him. "Nice place. Suits your... taste."

"Cut the pleasantries." He snapped. "What do you want?"

I leaned back, studying him. No matter how confident or egoistic he was, there was no hiding the stress from everything that had been happening to him these past few weeks.

Everything about him from his bloodshot eyes to the strain I could see in his posture was telling quite the story. The once-mighty CEO was a shadow of himself, clinging to the tatters of his reputation.

"I thought we'd catch up." I said, making sure he could hear the mockery in my voice. "It seems you've had a rough time lately. Nepotism scandals, debt exposure, lawsuits... Quite the trifecta."

His jaw tightened. "You think this is funny?"

"Not funny. Predictable." I shrugged. "You reap what you sow, Charles."

I paused.

"Okay, I'll admit it's a bit funny." I chuckled. "You thought you could meddle with WireFrame and Apex without consequences. Turns out, the universe has a way of balancing the scales."

He stiffened, his grip tightening on the stem of his glass. "You're behind this."

I smiled, letting the silence hang for a moment before responding. "Charles, why would I go through all that trouble? Isn't it just... karma?"

His eyes narrowed, anger slowly crawling up his face. "Do you think I'm scared of you, Voss? You're just a spoiled brat playing dress-up."

I chuckled softly. "Threats, Charles? Really? You're in no position to make them."

"Don't test me." He growled, his voice low. "I still have connections."

"Connections?" I leaned forward, dropping my voice to a dangerous whisper. "Do you think those connections will save you when the board ousts you, or when the media exposes your next skeleton?"

He opened his mouth to retort, but I cut him off before he could speak. "It doesn't matter who you call, Charles. Nothing can save you from this."

I stood, smoothing my jacket. "Enjoy your dinner, Charles." I said, my voice light again. "You'll need the energy for what's coming."

I turned away and paused, turning back with a chuckle. "Oh! Before I forget, Clarisse says hi."

His face paled at the mention of her name before reddening as anger filled him, overtaking his fear.

I turned and walked away, leaving him stewing in his rage and the eruption happened sooner than I expected.

As I reached the main dining room, I heard the crash of glass shattering and Harrington's booming voice echoing through the restaurant.

"Get out of my sight!" He roared.

I turned to see him standing over a trembling waiter, his face red with fury. The poor staff member was frozen, clutching a broken wine glass.

"You're fired!" Harrington shouted, pointing a shaking finger at the young man. "Do you hear me? Fired!"

The room fell silent, every eye fixed on the spectacle. Diners reached for their phones, recording the scene. Harrington's meltdown was on full display, a man unraveling before the world.

As security rushed to intervene, I stepped outside smiling to myself.

It didn't take too long after that before my phone began buzzing with notifications. Videos of the whole restaurant thing were already spreading like wildfire.

By morning, Charles Harrington's fall was complete.
