Chapter 482: The Ultimate Game of Chess [2]
[SICARIO]
"Oh yeah? Something tells me you're more excited than us to fight this phase of the war, Alexander Russel. Or are we reading it all wrong this time?" Theo said as he laughed at the brother who was staring now with a grim face.
"Is that true, Adolf?" Sebastian asked with a smirk, right at the same time that Adolf spoke.
"Mate."
The silence that followed Adolf's declaration was deafening, to say the least. They were at war, sure, and there were bound to be clanging swords, and fireballs flying around, but even with all that around, the deafening response to that would forever haunt them.
For a moment, they all wanted to say the warriors were fucking with them just because he could, which would truly be low of him if it turned out to be a joke, but then was it really?
Was it a game that the great Greyson beta was playing right now or was this the moment when they all realized they were too fucked up to even have a voice in anything?
Was this the moment when hate and love came together only to be thwarted by the existence of the worst phases of trust between them? Was this it?
"No… No," a warrior's voice was heard as he stared into Adolf's eyes, begging to know that this was false. Perhaps it was because of the mate spell that Sebastian had cast over them, but they knew that Lycans were never manipulated.
Lycans were the frontline warriors after the protectors and there was just no way that the Russel magic would fuck them up. But what if it truly happened and they weren't even mates for real?
Oh, but the mate bond was pulling the Lycan and the wolf together. It was excruciating to even try to fight against it, because they were both powerful. They were strong and could win whatever they wanted together.
They would make a formidable team just like every other member of the Savasci Knights' team. But then this wasn't what it was supposed to be for them. It wasn't meant for occasions like this.
"Reject me, Adolf. We need to get back to the war and we can't do that when both our hearts are yearning for each other. This is the work of magic," Zaniel, the Lycan enforcer said to the werewolf beta who was staring in disbelief. Find adventures at empire
This wasn't what they had bargained for. This wasn't how this was supposed to happen and as Zane looked at the Lycan behind the theme, he knew this was the true mate bond.
He knew that this wasn't just because of what Sebastian and Alex had tried.
This wasn't because of the war and if they were under normal circumstances, the warriors would have cheered as the Greysons were continually bonded with the strongest of the Sicario elite warriors.
But then it wasn't that time for them. It wasn't their chance to dance and enjoy the pleasures of their bonds. It wasn't the joy that they had hoped for and fuck it was terrifying to say the least, but boy was it crazy.
"What?" Adolf asked as he looked at Zane.
He had wanted to be the one to say Zaniel's words because he was okay with the pain of a rejection, but he didn't expect this. This was what they were supposed to be like on the battlefield and Adolf was raging.
He hated this.
He hated the uncertainty that was creeping around them. He could hear the warriors fighting but wondered whether the mate bond was because of what Sebastian had done. It was fucked up, a little too much and it hurt, to say the least.
"This is the only way. They can't fuck with us if you reject me," Zane said and the warriors' hearts broke for their fellow warriors.
This wasn't fair, but then it wasn't as easy a choice either Adolf stared at his new mate and he felt the overwhelming desire to fight the Russel warriors.
So instead of responding to Zaniel's request, he shifted into his wolf and went to fight the Russels on the other war front, away from the thoughts that were hugging him. He was angry about all of this.
Adolf wanted a reply, but even he knew there was no reprieve. He hated that his mate was feeling the same way. He hated that they were being toyed with on the most sacred ground and concepts but what else could they do?
They just had to hold the fort regardless of what they had to do. After all, this was what they had been destined for, right?
"Oh 'reject me'' you guys are fucking pathetic," Sebastian mocked as he watched Adolf fight on the other side of the war.
He had hoped that they would be distracted but then despite the fact that every distraction he brought to these warriors, they managed to wave it off so casually. Who the fuck even played low with the mate bond without even trying to figure it all out?
Who even tried to fight back an acceptance when the points were right there? This was frustrating for Sebastian, but not more than Zaniel because the warriors were done playing these games with the Russels.
They wanted a fight and they had been fighting the entire night, but for some reason, Zane was determined to fight Sebastian to the death, and the only way to hurt Sebastian the most was to fight with Alex.
"Good for you," Zaniel said angrily as he wrapped Alex in strands of poisonous magical ropes. There were loopholes in the realm when it came to the Russels. There were a lot and the protectors and the Lycans had been taught them for the longest times.
These were tactics to be used if they truly were losing the war, and not when they were least agitated.
Zane knew he would probably face the disciplinary council or even the moon goddess herself for what he was doing to Alex, but then there was nothing else he could lose.
His mind was filled with the stares from Adolf, the disbelieving look that the warrior had given him, like Adolf couldn't believe spaniel through throwing er rust the product of some damned magic.
That shit was messing with Zane's mind and he channeled it to rip Alex bit by bit.
He wasn't relenting, and as Alex's screams filled the air, the Lycans were in shock. This was never what they had imagined but then at the same time, none of them had imagined being toyed with like that yeah?
"Seb, help me," Alex begged, but his brother was preoccupied by the other loans and the Savasci knights who weren't fighting Alex.
This had taken a turn he had never thought of and then screams from his brother were driving Sebastian insane. Was this what he had truly wanted for his brother? Was this the end for both of them?
"The bond between you and Adolf is real, Zaniel. You and I already know that," Sebastian said as if that was supposed to distract Zane from hurting his brother so badly, but the warrior really was not listening to him.
He refused to be toyed with, not when he could feel Adolf's eyes on him even from the other side of the warfront. This was so fucked up and Zaniel hated it.
"Like the bond between you and your little brother, Kurt?"
